Some customers of mobile operator EE (BT) are this morning reporting a sporadic loss of 4G data connectivity (mobile broadband) on their Smartphones in parts of Southern England, such as around Bristol, Crawley, Brighton, London and Thurroc, among other areas
The issue appears to have started at around 8am today and those affected report that their mobiles are now returning a “PDP authentication failure” (Packet Data Protocol). Meanwhile EE’s customer support numbers merely confirm the existence of a “technical issue“, but provide no other meaningful information.
Assuming this is a problem with EE’s authentication servers (possibly related to corrupt, mismatched or missing network information) then such issues usually only take a few short hours to resolve, which hopefully means that the downtime will soon come to an end (after this you might need to reboot your mobile or put it briefly into Airplane mode in order to reconnect).
UPDATE 1:05pm
The service seems to have returned to normal for most people, although a few are still reporting issues.
An EE Spokesperson said:
“Earlier this morning some customers experienced problems using 4G data services in some Southern areas of the UK. Voice and text messages services were not affected, and the issue was resolved within a few hours. Normal service has been restored quickly and we apologise to our customers for the inconvenience caused.”
Experienced this this morning, phone dropped to 3G with no data.
Fixed itself at 10:00..
Mine fixed itself about 5 minutes ago
Fixed here about 15 minutes ago
Even with no data still more reliable than 3.
Nice one Ryan! 😉
I second that!
Thirded 🙂
I am in the South West I never got a single drop.. I’ve been on it all day
I’ve had a massive problem with EE most of masts we use where we are have either been down graded or decommissioned according to the tech team. I’ve left them free of charge. He said they are not sure when when the problem will be resolved.
I’ve experienced trouble with mine on and off for the last month, telling me I’m connected but no Internet
noticed it in Bournemouth around 10am. switching from 3g to 4g made no difference. Tried airplane mode, reboot, mobile data on/off nothing worked. Then as I drove out of town it started working again. I put it down to ‘upgrade work’ that they claim is the cause of 4g (VoLTE) dropped calls that seem to happen often in Bournemouth but nowhere else.
Lost connection in aberdare South wales
I am having problem with apps freezing and then saying “no signal”. And lots of intermittant problems. Goes to 4g to 3g. I am in the West Midlands.
Lost internet for about the hours in North Devon. Had to go to McDonald’s in order to get connection for work!
Most of the afternoon on 6 October, terrible internet connection in North London most of the afternoon affected, normal service resumed by 4pm hope today 7oct is a better service from now on
Same today dropped to 3g but at least it’s loading web pages
Sutton Surrey all I got is 2G last 2 days, as I am new customer to EE this is a terrible experience, only been with EE for 2 days
Still within my 14 days cooling off period,, think might have to switch again!!
Staffordshire…on the 6th I barely had a signal for internet or to make calls on my phone, yesterday was a little better, back in August I had approx 3hrs of service over a 10 day period, not good enough as I’m a carer & rely on my phone & need to be able to be contacted in an emergency.
Surrey – random access to data for last few days – sometimes customers just get voice mail when calling.
Comical level of service from BT/EE – time for Vodaphone
I’m having massive problems with ee network for the last 2 weeks. Reception being cut for 2-3 hours a day plus no more reception where i live. I keep receiving messages from EE confirming that are problems on my area and it take longer until it gets fixed….for the last 7days.
Mine is not fixed in Wells. No mobile data
