One of the most popular broadband-based unlimited Movie and TV video streaming services, Netflix, has today announced that they are to hike the monthly prices of their ‘Standard‘ and ‘Premium‘ plans for existing customers too. The former will jump from £8.99 to £9.99, while the latter increases from £11.99 to a hefty £13.99.
The only good news is that Netflix’s ‘Basic‘ plan, which merely offers standard definition video quality via a single stream, will remain at £5.99 per month. On the other hand they’ve now axed their long-running promotion of a free 30-day trial for new subscribers.
Existing customers will be notified about this change over the next couple of months (new customers were hit last month) and those affected will be given one month’s notice before the price rise is introduced. People who don’t like this may prefer to cancel or downgrade their plan. More details here.
Currently paying £5.99 via the Apple Store / iTunes Store / Apple Music or whatever its called this week. I believe I have HD and more than one stream. So far the price has never gone up. I might be in for a nasty shock when I get a 4K telly though. I don’t think Netflix will let you subscribe via Apple any more.
Taking this piss
Not enough new things put up
Just old crap .so sorry to say
Will be leaving
Just pause your account until a few things you want to watch turn up and then re-start. I do this regularly.
Not enough new content? Are you mad? Netflix are constantly delivering new content, you either have a very limited interest in things you watch or are not exploring it’s full library. People need to understand original content costs money, and Netflix deliver a lot of original content now. It’s still much cheaper than TV licenses, going to the cinema etc. If I look at what I spend on Netflix to the hours of enjoyment I get out of it there is no competition.
They really need to introduce more packages. I don’t need to stream on 4 screens, but I do like 4K/HDR.
Totally agree I was thinking the same thing.
Netflix are overpricing themselves disney plus only cost 59.99 a year sub that with 4K streaming
I don’t think so. Disney is a different type of service with less content than Netflix. I think Netflix pricing is very fair for how much content they deliver now, they have some incredible series with huge budgets, Stranger Things & The Witcher are 2 that spring to mind. Netflix is the leading streaming platform, with the largest library.
Other streaming platforms such as Disney & Shudder are fairly priced at around £5 to £6 because they have more limited content that tends to be a niche. Ultimately the Netflix subscription is less than the TV license fee and I am sure most people watch a lot more Netflix than TV.
It’s all about £ per hour of value in my opinion.
This is why I use a vpn to buy netflix from a different country like turkey
