Broadway Partners Bring FTTP to 6 Rural Monmouthshire Villages

Rural network operator Broadway Partners (UK ISP Broadway Broadband) has announced that their 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) service has just been extended to connect homes around six more villages in Monmouthshire (South Wales) as part of a £2 million scheme.

Last year saw the operator unveil a new £2m scheme, which is being part-funded by a commercial loan from Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) and gigabit vouchers via the UK government (Building Digital UK). Overall, this aims to help their “full fibre” broadband network to cover more than 10,000 premises in the county by the end of 2023 (here).

Since then a lot of work has taken place and as a result of that the service has now started to go live across the communities of LLansoy, Llangovan, Llandenny, Llanarth, Llangwm and Kingcoed. In total this reflects a coverage increase of around 400 premises (homes and businesses) and many more are set to follow.

We should point out that the provider is also busy doing similar work in other parts of Wales, such as around Pembrokeshire (here).

Michael Armitage, CEO of Broadway Partners, said:

“We’re delighted to have connected these communities and progress our rollout across the county. The region’s challenging topography has meant that it has suffered from some of the poorest broadband speeds in the country and, as a result, has been left behind by urban areas. The internet has been a lifeline for people during the pandemic and we’re proud to deliver high-speed, affordable broadband when it is needed more than ever.”

Customers of this service typically pay from just £29.99 per month for Broadway’s entry-level unlimited 50Mbps (5Mbps upload) package with a free installation (this one is for their wireless network), which rises to £19.99 for 100Mbps (30Mbps upload), £39.99 for 300Mbps (30Mbps upload) or £99.99 for 1000Mbps (100Mbps upload).

All of this should help to support Broadway’s aim of extending their “gigabit-capable … fibre” network to cover 500,000 homes and businesses by the end of 2022 (here).
