Ofcom Probes UK ISP Colt Over Statutory Information Request

The UK telecoms regulator, Ofcom, has opened an investigation into business broadband ISP Colt Technology Services over a possible failure to comply with its duty to provide information, which was first requested last year as part of the recent Wholesale Fixed Telecoms Market Review 2021 (WFTMR).

Section 135 of the Communication Act 2003 requires providers to provide information, in a reasonable period of time, when responding to such a request from Ofcom. Failure to supply the requested information could potentially lead to a fine or other action, depending upon the context for all this.

Unfortunately, the case itself (here) doesn’t tell us much, only that Ofcom’s investigation “will examine whether there are reasonable grounds for believing that Colt has failed to comply with its duty to provide the information required by the Notice within the deadline set.” Such cases usually take several months to reach a conclusion.

Maybe that’s why they never responded

COLT are the enabling telephone network behind Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and AWS, so they may no longer be “traditional” but they’re still very active.

Had a terrible experience with Colt recently. They’ve turned to tricking customers to drive short term profit, without caring that they are driving customers away in the long term.
