Neos Networks UK Launch Ethernet over FTTx Service

Neos Networks (formerly SSE Enterprise Telecoms), which operates a 20,000km long fibre network across the UK and over 350 Points of Presense (PoPs), has today launched its new Ethernet over FTTx (EoFTTx) service for businesses and operators that need more affordable sub-1Gbps connections for their sites.

As the name suggests this reflects a service that can deliver Ethernet style connections over various different consumer facing fibre-based lines, such as Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) or Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC / VDSL2). “The service is perfect for organisations operating smaller sites that are unsuitable for services 1Gbps and above, but are too mature for broadband connectivity,” said Neos.

The advantage of taking something like EoFTTx instead of just regular FTTP or FTTC is that you often benefit from something closer to a leased line, which means a better level of service quality, dedicated capacity or higher traffic priority and stronger Service Level Agreements (SLA) etc.

Neos Networks will be utilising both its own expansive fibre network, as well as Openreach’s FTTP and FTTC access products, in order to support the new service.

Mark Charlesworth, Product Director at Neos Networks, said:

“We are delighted to unveil Ethernet over FTTx as our first product launch from our new brand Neos Networks. The launch signifies our commitment to bringing best in class connectivity solutions to UK organisations as their business requirements evolve.

Hybrid Ethernet solutions like EoFTTx enable more organisations to access high quality business connectivity services. This, in turn, will help support the UK’s drive for greater fibre connectivity.”

The announcement comes as Neos Networks continues its latest network expansion programme, which will see the operator grow their own fibre network to over 30,000km by the end of 2021. The business is also significantly developing its exchange footprint with over 550 exchanges on-net by the end of the year.

Already got my order in :-). Yes it’s more expensive than regular FTTx but plenty of advantages in my opinion.
