The UK Government has today launched its “back to school and college campaign” to set out the experience that students can expect from September 2021, which among other things includes support for remote education when young people test positive for COVID-19 and need to isolate. A £75 broadband grant forms part of this.
The announcement doesn’t say much, but apparently grant funding will be available for schools and colleges to claim to provide internet connections to help disadvantaged pupils who may need to learn remotely. They will be able to claim up to £75 over three months to provide mobile dongles (mobile broadband) or broadband ISP routers for pupils.
Until recently, Vodafone were also offering masses of free data SIMs to school pupils (schools.connected), but that programme has now ended.
