UK ISP Quantum Fibre Broadband (formerly Quantum Air Fibre), which last year set itself a target to cover 120,000 homes in Lincolnshire (England) with a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network, has announced that they’ve now covered 5,000 premises and expect to reach 10,000 in Q1 2022.
The operator originally started life as a Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) provider, which focused upon villages and other rural location inside Lincolnshire. But last year saw them move into FTTP and this has now become their primary focus, hence the welcome change of name. As part of that, they also acquired civil engineering firm QConex for an undisclosed sum.
However, despite the progress, Quantum has yet to publish much in the way of a solid rollout plan, and thus we’re unsure of where in Lincolnshire their new full fibre network can actually be found. But we do know that they’re already live across their home village of Coningsby.
Customers of this service will pay from just £19 per month for an unlimited 120Mbps (symmetric speed) package on a 24-month term and with an included router, which rises to £60 for their top 1Gbps plan. The ISP has also put out a promotion, albeit fairly low-resolution (480p), video of their fibre work and a few engineers walking in slow motion – we hope they’ll discover the existence of HD and 4K quality modes at some point.
The provider is currently looking to expand their team – For more details on the positions, contact careers@quantumbroadband.co.uk .
You may be pleasantly surprised re. Skegness early in the New Year
I’d be interested if they come to Holton le Clay, this area has been missed for years since it’s in the Lincolnshire county council area but the Grimsby postal district for addressing and the Openreach exchange is in Grimsby which has fttc across the whole Grimsby geographical area. The outlying villages are stuck on ADSL I’m lucky to get 2mbps here, otherwise it’s Virgin with their stupid prices. I’ve registered on their website today, I just hope they don’t lock down routers like Grain has in their central Grimsby rollout as I wouldn’t touch Grain for that reason.
I suspect they produced the promo as a short video in 480p, so potential customers -i.e. those in areas most interested in it because they don’t have FTTP – had a chance of downloading it in less than 4 hours….. 🙂
It’s easy to forget how challenged many households and businesses still are – a point never lost in ITS, who are also rolling out in Lincolnshire (starting in Scunthorpe as you’ve previously reported)
Full Fibre in Wainfleet too would be a blessing. Again whoever get’s here first would hoover the competition
Skegness – I’ll believe it when I see it. Just like 5G.
Hello,
Will you be bringing some clarity to the rollout for 202s by giving potential customers the place names ?
