Alternative network builder Freedom Fibre (FF), which is being supported by UK ISP partner TalkTalk (here) and is busy building a new 10Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network across semi-rural parts of North England, has just invested another £5m to help extend their network into Shropshire.
FF’s relatively new network has already grown to cover around 10,000 premises and, at the last update, they still expected to exit the year with £30m of capital following a second major equity injection. So far, much of their initial build has focused upon various towns across parts of Cheshire, Lancashire, Merseyside and Greater Manchester.
The good news is that FF, which aims to cover 50,000 homes across the North West by summer 2022, and then possibly 100,000 premises by the end of 2022, now intends to expand their build plans into Shropshire during the Spring 2022. Some of the first locations to benefit from this £5m effort will include Whitchurch (not to be confused with the one in Buckinghamshire), Wem and Prees.
Marie Danby, Freedom Fibre’s Service Operations Director, said:
“Already residents are telling us how excited they are to sign up for the service after suffering from poor speeds for some time. Customers will be able to access speeds of up to 500mb through TalkTalk, making a huge difference to how they can use broadband at home.”
Any local residents interested in getting their home broadband speeds “ultra-boosted” can pre-register their interest at www.freedomfibre.com/register . Credits to James for spotting this update.
Very poor decision to have full fibre in Wem in Shropshire. Why not in largest town in Shrewsbury?
Probably because someone else beat them to it Ray: https://www.fibreheroes.co.uk/coverage/broadband-shrewsbury/
