Mobile Operator Smarty Finally Launches 5G Service for the UK
Tuesday, January 18th, 2022 (12:01 am) - Score 2,280
Mobile operator Smarty will today finally switch-on their new ultrafast 5G mobile (mobile broadband) service, which will be available at “no extra cost” for both new and existing customers who want to take advantage of the improved data speeds.
Smarty, which is a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) on Three UK’s platform, has made no secret of the fact that they intended to launch 5G services to complement their existing 4G platform, but until recently they’ve been very coy about the details of when this might happen.
“So now, you can enjoy, unlimited calls and texts, total contract-free flexibility and now even faster speeds. Customers can try it for themselves with our [special promo] of Unlimited [data] at £16,” said the operator.

It will be very interesting to see what the AMBR is, and whether the packet loss issues which plague SMARTY’s 4G service due to its proxy are present on its 5G NSA service.
Tried using the 3internet apn?
That doesn’t work on Smarty. It’s not the same as Three.
You can put anything you like in the apn settings and it makes zero difference
Still can’t a 5G signal at home, sigh. Sometimes though…
Neither can about two thirds of the Country.
Excellent, and no extra cost! The website still hasn’t been updated though. Will be interesting to see the speed comparisons with Three, see if there is any difference.
I managed to connect to SMARTY’s 5G the other day, along with a three SIM in my first SIM slot, same place and both of the Sims got the sameish speeds (give or take 20 meg).
That’s really good to know thanks. Will be good with speeds being the same, makes Smarty to be even better value.
Not seeing the “[special promo] of Unlimited [data] at £16” on the website?
Website is now updated with 5G info.
Can’t get 4g at our address on Smarty still on 3. All the other operators have 4g
700mbps down the other day. Quite impressive! Better than 500mbps I saw about 6 months ago on the same mono pole.
Have seen it come up with “5G” when really it is 4G LTE-A though.
There is some packet loss though which I am not too happy about.
