Mobile Operator Three UK Gives Retail Staff a Huge Pay Rise

Tuesday, Feb 1st, 2022 (11:27 am) - Score 2,880

Mobile network operator Three UK has announced that around 2,500 of their retail staff – working in 311 retail stores – will be awarded pay increases of up to 12.6% this month, which will be reflected by new minimum hourly rates set at £10.13 nationwide and £11.40 in London, excluding bonus.

The new rates are said to be the first with base hourly rates surpassing the real National Living Wage for colleagues in their stores outside of London, and the London Living Wage set by the Living Wage Foundation for staff in their London stores. The rises apply to all staff regardless of age.

NOTE: Performance-related bonuses averaging 25% of base salary will continue to be paid to all staff.

Three UK is also undertaking a recruitment drive with more than 100 retail vacancies currently live in its stores, with particular needs in Central London, Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow.

Elaine Carey, Chief Commercial Officer at Three UK, said:

“Our retail staff are at the core of our business and I am delighted to announce this increase in base salary as a reward for their continued hard work, particularly throughout the pandemic.

Now more than ever, good mobile connectivity is critical to how we all live and work, so it’s right that we reward the people who serve our customers day in, day out. I’d like to thank all of my colleagues for their continuing contributions to our business and our goal of delivering better connectivity, every day for every customer.”

We’re happy for the staff, although on the flip side many customers of their service are still bracing for Three UK to reintroduce EU roaming charges from 23rd May 2022.

Good, I genuinely approve wholeheartedly of this, especially given they are (like all of them) putting bills up so much.

Against a backdrop of every company putting out inflation busting price rises, I’m far more likely to stay with one that’s actually paying it’s staff properly.

You don’t think the people who work to provide you services should be paid a living wage?

    Awful.

Im just on the edge of 5G coverage.

Pretty sure the retail guys aren’t responsible for the lack of coverage, I’d suggest targeting some emails at their CEO and execs instead of moaning about these guys getting a slightly better pay rate!

    Couldn’t agree more with Chris^

Why not both. You don’t have to have one without the other. Race to the bottom isn’t sustainable. People should be paid fairly for the work done.

      So switch network then!

The retail staff getting better pay and conditions has nothing to do with this.

Good for them. Surreal people having a problem with this just because they can’t get 5G where they live.

    Damien,

Lidl are to pay £10.10 an hour outside London from March this year and £11.30 within the M25. Morrisons pay about £10 and others not much less.
