Netomnia UK Confirm GBP21m Full Fibre Rollout for Hamilton

At the start of this year we noted that Netomnia were set to extend their UK rollout of a new 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network to more of Scotland, with Hamilton being one of their targets (here). Today the operator has confirmed that they will invest £21m on the town’s build for “almost” 70,000 premises.

The operator, which last year secured £123m of funding (here), has so far covered around 90,000 premises across a number of towns in England, Wales and Scotland (e.g. Ashford, Barrow-in-Furness, Boston, Bridgend, Canterbury, Cheltenham, Durham and many more). The company’s ultimate goal is to reach 1 million UK homes and businesses by the end of 2023, which is very ambitious for such a timescale.

Officially speaking, this project represents only Netomnia’s second deployment in Scotland after their £12m build to cover 40,000 premises in the South Lanarkshire town of East Kilbride. But their future rollout plan also looks set to catch parts of Irvine, Coatbridge, Cumbernauld, Falkirk, Livingston, Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy and Dalkeith.

The service itself is typically supplied to consumers via UK ISP partner YouFibre, which offers unlimited usage, symmetrical speeds, a Wi-Fi router, free installation and 24/7 UK based support. Customers then pay from £22 per month on an 18-month term for their unlimited 50Mbps package, which rises to £40 if you want their top 900Mbps plan. At present, there’s also a special offer that gives the first 3 months of service for free.

We should point out that Virgin Media has already covered most of Hamilton with their own gigabit-capable broadband network, while Openreach also has some FTTP in parts of the town and their local build isn’t yet listed as having completed (although the area seems to have been skipped on their future rollout map).
