Broadband ISP BT Add Xbox Game Pass to FTTP Broadband Plans

UK ISP BT has today enhanced their top two fastest Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based home broadband packages – 500Mbps and 900Mbps – by adding a “free” Xbox Game Pass Ultimate – running for 6 months on 500Mbps and 12 months on 900Mbps (costing £10 per month thereafter).

As usual new customers can expect to receive an included wireless router, a 24-month contract term, unlimited data usage, Cloud storage (online backup), Virus Protect, Parental Controls, Call Protect (stops nuisance calls) when bundled with phone, the Stay Fast Guarantee (get the speeds they promise or £20 back) and free access to BT’s national network of public WiFi hotspots.

NOTE: BT says the Xbox Game Pass is live today, but for some reason it won’t be labelled on the product card on the landing page (i.e. you have to go past the point in the order process where you enter your address details in order to see it).

The Full Fibre 500Mbps package costs from £45.99 per month (£48.99 post-contract) on a 24-month term with free setup, and you also get an included £50 BT Reward Card (pre-paid Mastercade). Similarly, BT’s 900Mbps plan costs from £55.99 per month (£58.99 post contract) and includes the same reward card.

The pass itself gives you access to Microsoft’s huge library of games (inc. cloud gaming), online multiplayer, as well as exclusive member discounts and various in-game perks or partner offers. The pass was originally designed for use alongside their Xbox video game consoles, but these days you can also use it on the PC and mobile devices (provided you have a game controller).

Haven’t they been doing this for a while now? Or were they just ‘time limited’ offers which are now permanent?

I’m trundling along on >500Mbps download / >130Mbps upload for £11 a month on Three. Can’t see any reason to buy FTTP even if it was available here.

Hi, can I ask what you’re using to get that?

“Can’t see any reason to buy FTTP even if it was available here”

I can think of a million reasons why FTTP is far superior than cellular if you have a choice. The obvious ones are

      – Better stability wrt speeds.
      – Better pings
      – Able to download more data (good luck trying to download 5TB on cellular)
      – no CGNAT
      – Greater choice of hardware available

    3. Avatar photo Mike says:

Speeds will get worse over time as 5G take up increases, same happened with Three’s 3G/4G.

      @Shaun

-Is there any evidence of Three enforcing the fup?
-There is no CGNAT on the 3internet APN.

Getting FTTP is not all about speed there are other reasons like above.
Also some FTTP provider have better core networks for different applications like gaming etc.

This is an unusual new story as i have had the free XBOX games pass on BT for months! So it isnt a news story. This offer has been there for ages.

      It comes and goes.
      It just came back.

  4. Avatar photo Jake4 says:

@Mike Three has previously enforced their FUP policy against me whilst I was on PAYG with unlimited data but after contacting live chat a few times I managed to get put through to someone who removed it.

TLDR: I may have seeded 1TB+ of ‘Linux ISOs’ in a month.

That’s not a boast you just look like a greedy D*ckhead.

People want lower prices not all these pointless addons

  6. Avatar photo anonymous says:

I agree, rather than put up prices better to give introductory price or standard market leading price than “free” addons that may be used by some people but not others. Not as if there is a chocie of bill rebate instead in the BT offer….

    1. Avatar photo Tech3475 says:

I wouldn’t be surprised if either BT is betting on not everyone taking up the offer and/or they got it at a heavy discount/free from MS.

A rebate/discount would likely cost them more money in comparison or possibly even complaints if the above is true i.e. complaints about not getting £10.99 off their bill.

This is also an option with EE when you take out an add to plan Xbox bundle

I would like to say that after claiming this promotion today, it would appear to be completely useless.

I already had Xbox GPU subscribed until 14/02/2024 when bought my console new with 2 years subscription and after adding this new supposed 12 month GPU it didn’t stack on top of existing subscription.

On MyBT website it says that subscription is valid only until 07/05/2023.

It would appear that these subscriptions are separate somehow.

If anyone is in a similar situation beware, it will be a useless perk

    1. Avatar photo Mark says:

From memory you can only stack a maximum of 3 years gamepass ultimate at one time.

Last year I let my gold and gamepass expire, bought 3 years of gold then took the £1 gamepass trial which upgraded 3 years gold to gamepass ultimate. I was going to buy 6 years gold but read in a few places that 3 was the maximum you could convert this way.
