Scottish ISP Lothian Broadband, which is currently building a new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP / XGS-PON) network to cover 70,000 homes and businesses across rural parts of East and Mid Lothian, has just added 3 new locations to their rollout plan for 2022 – Gullane, East Linton and Pathhead.
The provider originally began building a new full fibre network to cater for the East Lothian village of Gifford, but they’re also building into Longniddry and the East Lothian village of Pencaitland. Since then they’ve secured a £20m boost from the Scottish National Investment Bank (SNIB) – this is on top of £5m from existing shareholders (details).
Gullane will now be the provider’s next location, with work on the 1,600-premise build starting in July and the first customers being connected in September; the East Linton and Pathhead builds will start shortly after, with the entire network builds across all locations being completed in 2022.

Gavin Rodgers, CEO at Lothian Broadband Group, said:
“Our latest full fibre broadband investments will give local businesses and residents access to ultrafast broadband that is not only as fast as anywhere else in the UK but also reliable and affordable.”
Customers on their fibre network typically pay from £29.99 for an unlimited 100Mbps (symmetric) service on a 12-month term, which rises to £59.99 for their top 900Mbps gigabit tier. Some other areas are also being serviced by the provider’s Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) network, but that only offers download speeds of up to 35Mbps.
The ISP also reports that it has developed a new range of even cheaper 24-month term packages, but at the time of writing we couldn’t see these listed on their website.
UPDATE 15th Sept 2022
Lothian has confirmed that their XGS-PON kit is from ADTRAN.

Noticed that Lothian broadband are starting fttp in Gullane after they have finished Longniddry but have missed Aberlady which is in between the 2 – can anybody explain why
Great news for Pathhead in there before Openreach and symmetric too 100 up 100 down on the cheapest package
What about putting fibre into parts of Elgin morayshire that has been forgotten about Linkwood View on Thornhill Drive the speed we get here is 0.01mbs so please look into it
1 Thornhill Drive can get Openreach FTTP so I’d speak to the management company for Linkwood View, either Openreach haven’t got round to them yet or they aren’t speaking to Openreach.
The owner of Linkwood View has been approached a number of times with regards to a wayleave to allow fibre into the building but on all occasions has refused to proceed with granting it.
Until that changes, there is nothing anyone, even Openreach, can do.
