Asterion-backed network provider MS3, which is working to deploy a new 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP / XGS-PON) broadband ISP network to cover 500,000 premises across the North of England by around 2026 (here), has announced that their build in the Lincolnshire town of Scunthorpe has finally started to go live.
MS3 began deploying their new open-access (wholesale) full fibre network to homes and businesses in Lincolnshire and Yorkshire earlier this year, starting with Hull, Scunthorpe, Cleethorpes and Grimsby. The first homes in Hull have already gone live and the same is now happening in Scunthorpe. Many premises are already benefitting from the rollout, with 35,000 homes and businesses expected to be connected by the beginning of 2023.
A number of UK ISPs are already offering products via MS3’s network (Pure Broadband, ZYBRE, Hull Fibre, Air Broadband etc.) and the operator expects to add new locations to their rollout plan later in 2022. MS3 is currently expanding outward from their existing fibre ring through Hull and aims to reach more than 30 other locations in the region.

However, I do want to stress that we get a lot of “gone live” style announcements, which we don’t always cover because there are masses of altnets and such updates can become quite repetitive. Instead, we prefer to focus on announcements that include the addition of new locations to a rollout plan, which is of greater interest.
