Broadband ISP Truespeed, which is building a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network across rural parts of South West England, has today issued a progress update and confirmed that their infrastructure now covers 50,000 premises (with 11,500 live customers).

The operator, which last year confirmed that they held an “ambitious target to reach 500,000 properties within the next five years” (i.e. by the end of 2026), is currently being funded by a £175m investment from Aviva. But they did recently take a hit with the loss of a state aid supported rollout contract in Devon and Somerset (here).

James Lowther, Truespeed CEO, said: “Passing 50,000 properties is a huge testament to the team’s efforts as we continue to rapidly roll out our ultrafast network and connect more customers to some of the fastest broadband speeds anywhere in the world. We’re thrilled to have reached this milestone and are looking forward to continuing our vital work improving connectivity throughout the South West.”

Residential customers pay from £40 per month for a symmetric speed 150Mbps package on an 18-month contract term (currently discounted to £25), which rises to £70 for their top 900Mbps tier (now discounted to £49). The service also includes a free phone solution, installation and a restricted router.
