UK ISP Shell Energy Offers FREE Broadband Until 2023

Monday, Sep 12th, 2022 (12:01 am) - Score 4,192
Shell Energy Broadband

Broadband ISP and energy provider Shell Energy will later this morning launch a new promo, which is to offer “free broadband” until January 2023 to both new and existing customers who take one of their Fast, Superfast Fibre, Superfast Fibre Plus, Ultrafast Fibre or Ultrafast Fibre Plus plans (i.e. ADSL, FTTC or G.fast).

The promotion, which is expected to be available to take until 30th October 2022, does however come with some caveats. For example, it will not be available to those on Shell Energy’s Full Fibre (FTTP) products and existing customers will only be able to benefit if they are currently in receipt of an End of Contract Notification (ECN) letter / email for their package.

NOTE: Shell’s packages are offered via Openreach’s national UK network.

In addition, the deal is only available to those taking out an 18-month contract term and the “free” aspect does not extend to other charges, such as for call plans and postage, which are still applicable and will be charged separately.

As usual, Shell’s broadband packages all come with unlimited usage, an included wireless router, free activation and copper line rental with standard call rates (only valid on FTTC and G.fast plans). Some of their broadband packages will also introduce a change to their current pricing later this morning (all on 18-month terms). As above, some of these plans will be free until the start of 2023.

Summary of Shell’s Broadband Plans

Fast Broadband (11Mbps) – £18.99 (£27.58 after 18m)

Actually to end of this year plus 1 day?

That’s generally what “until 2023” means, yes. My guess is that’s the way they’re promoting it since different people will sign-up at different times, thus they can’t give a clear “x months free”.

so that’s basically 3 months free right now (give or take)?

So that’s just similar to other operators offers as that’s been seen before with an 18 month term.

Worth noting they are one of the worst ISPs reviewed here (albeit only a handful of reviews) and from family experience – should be avoided at all costs.

Shell can go get poked – they are one of the causes of the cost of living crisis, the greedy barstewards.

When I signed up for TalkTalk 500mb/s FTTP. I got 6 months free and then only £35 per month. Black Friday is coming in 2 months. I would say wait for then if you can. To get something similar.

How are Shell’s profits, are they managing?

I wouldn’t use Shell’s broadband if they paid me!

I’m one of their unfortunate domestic energy customers having been shunted to them by the bloody useless OFGEM via their supplier of last resort process.

Shell are an absolute shower, would have long since switched away had the market not been in total disarray…

I wouldn’t use their broadband the review are very sketchy, as a energy supplier they been fine for us, got moved to them when our previous supplier Green went bust unlike Green the bill are correct where Green keep using estimates instead of actual and randomly cancel previous bill and issue a amended bill that was wrong.

The 900 package price sounds decent. But although Openreach FTTP is offered here – shell doesn’t offer full fibre.

I wonder what modem they provide to FTTP customers.
