Broadband ISP Virgin Media UK and mobile operator O2, which not so long ago agreed a £31bn mega merger to become VMO2, have today celebrated after managing to attract 1 million customers to take-up their first joint product (bundle) under the ‘VOLT’ title – just one year after launching it.
In case anybody has forgotten, VOLT enabled customers to buy Virgin Media and O2 products together, for the first time, and take advantage of new benefits, such as faster broadband speeds, double the mobile data allowance, discounts on connectivity devices, a WiFi guarantee and various other exclusive rewards, perks and experiences from O2 Priority (loyalty programme).
The operator has also just launched a series of new Volt offers exclusively for small businesses, once again providing “more speed, more data and more value at a time when the UK’s entrepreneurs need it most.” Any customer taking a Voom broadband service from Virgin Media Business and an eligible O2 Small Business mobile tariff can now choose from free O2’s 4G back-up (i.e. for if your broadband fails) or a boost to the next Voom speed tier – and as O2 customers, they also have the option to double their mobile data for free or receive a free 4G mobile hotspot at no extra cost.

Jeff Dodds, Chief Operating Officer at VMO2, said:
“We launched Volt within months of our merger as part of our commitment to supercharge connectivity across the UK and to disrupt the market to give consumers improved choice and a more affordable way to bundle the UK’s leading broadband and mobile services together.
Reaching this milestone just a year after Volt launching demonstrates the momentum behind us and is testament to the quality of our offering and the real benefits available to our customers, which in the current climate have never been more valuable.”
Pricing for Volt bundles start from £29.99 per month for 200Mbps broadband (boosted from 100Mbps), Talk Weekends and a 10GB O2 SIM (boosted from 5GB). The top Volt bundle (Ultimate Volt bundle) includes 1Gbps broadband, an unlimited data O2 SIM, as well as tonnes of TV favourites and TV 360 available for £85 per month.
Seriously, we’re now having press releases about how many people someone has moved from one bundle of services to another? It’s hardly newsworthy.
Don’t read it, if you arent interested in the context!
I found it interesting 🙂
That’s nice. Where’s my faster upload?
BT.com is where you will find it.
Not here I won’t. Not even on the list for fibre.
gigabit download. 100 up. Yes Openreach is truly the greatest. /s
I certainly found the switch from Virgin Mobile to O2 very convinient. Signal seems better and I can finally use visual voicemail on my iPhone. Also O2 is one of the last networks still doing free roaming in Europe. Not only I have free roaming in 48 EU countries, regions and islands but also 27 additional free roaming destinations around the world, which is called O2 Travel Inclusive Zone. And if the country is not free at least I can choose to pay £6 a day on most countries. This is not cheap but it’s usable for a week or less whereas with Virgin Mobile they don’t even let you pay for the day and expect exorbitant rates like £5.00 per MB for data or £2.00 per minute to make a call.
That depends where you live, but in general O2 mobile internet is rubbish. I am only in contract with them because of EU roaming included and I think they know that this is the last reason for many customers to keep with them.
I wonder how many they’ve lost to altnets. I’m on VM and I’m planning to move to the FTTP they’re installing at the moment just as soon as I can order it.
Probably a lot, I found them recently started building network in my area. The area of ~2000 homes they’ve been not interested in for 9 years. But now they will have to compete with OR FTTP and Netomnia so I wish them good luck 😉
Well if my experience is anything to go by, this is very misleading. I’ve just renegotiated a package with Virgin Media and to access the “cheapest” broadband/ TV package you have to sign up to an 02 contract, so I think this is smoke and mirrors. I won’t be using my 02 sim and suspect others are in the same boat. Still marginally cheaper than sky if you can cope with Virgin Media’s derisory customer service.
