Belfast-based UK ISP Fibrus, which is building a new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network across Northern Ireland and Northern England, has today launch a new range of packages targeted at small and medium-sized enterprises – all include a pledge NOT to charge a connection fee or become subject to annual CPI price increases.
The new Fibrus business packages – targeted at enterprises with under 10 employees – are available to any of the 190,000 premises that have already been covered by their new full fibre network, which is expected to reach 500,000 premises by March 2024 (around 350,000 of which will be in Northern Ireland).
The packages themselves start at £30 +vat per month for a 150Mbps (30Mbps upload) tier on a 24-month term, which rises to just £45 for 900Mbps (300Mbps upload). Bolt-on options are also available and are in addition to the monthly payment – WiFi Booster £8, Digital Voice Anytime (unlimited UK & Ireland calls) £10, Static IP £5.

Alternatively, you can take a more expensive bundle that starts from £40 per month for 150Mbps, which includes Digital Voice Anytime, WiFi Booster and a 24-hour Service Level Agreement (add another +£20 if you want a 12-hour SLA). But one unusual catch is that their mesh WiFi Boosters and Digital Voice Anytime options are NOT available with their Static IP bolt-on.
Colin Hutchinson, Fibrus’ Chief Financial Officer, said:
“It’s a fact that SMEs are the backbone of Northern Ireland’s economy, which is why it’s incumbent upon us to support them as they continue to face unprecedented business and inflationary costs.
With no connection fee and a contract which won’t be subject to annual CPI increases or price jumps at the end of its term, we believe this is an opportunity to provide a sense of financial stability at a time where there is generally little certainty.
That’s part and parcel of why we are bringing this to local businesses. Fibrus is a local company and we understand the issues facing local business people. It’s essential that our SMEs are given the support they need to grow and thrive, particularly in the current economic climate.”
We should point out that it is also possible to just add the 24hr SLA to their basic business packages too, but that will increase the monthly cost by £8. In addition, the press release states that these packages will NOT be “subject to annual CPI increases“, but that doesn’t mean your prices will never increase – the website clarifies that this is a reference to how “your price will NEVER change mid-contract. We guarantee it.”
Mark can you confirm that it is correct that it’s available to the whole footprint?
My understanding is that project stratum areas are not included.. if they are then they are breaking thier contract with BDUK as the wholesale pricing is higher than retail.
The press release didn’t mention any exclusions, so we tend to assume there are none – England and Northern Ireland are both covered, is what we’ve been told thus far (I’ll check on Stratum).
I haven’t seen the contract terms that Fibrus agreed via NI’s Dpt for Economy, so I’m not entirely sure how much flexibility they have. But I do note that the wholesale packages they offer are of a different design (e.g. symmetric speeds) and that may circumvent the issue.
True, but it’s even higher (much higher) than the wholesale /residential/ (asymmetric) price. I’m aware of the BDUK price benchmarking rules, and I’m struggling to see how there is any compatibility between that and this product pricing.
For some odd reason when I read the line “all include a pledge NOT” my brain was expecting the sentence to finish with ‘to not randomly change your static IP address’
