Sky UK (Sky Broadband, Sky TV etc.) has, over the past week or so, begun rolling out a new firmware update (QS013) for their broadband-based Sky Glass TV service and display, which fixes various bugs and also appears to improve image quality by enabling local area dimming on the screen.
Local dimming is a feature that enables TVs based on Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) to improve their contrast ratio in dark scenes by dimming backlight zones. Better black levels tend to result in better image quality, and this bodes well for users of the Sky Glass “Quantum Dot” QLED based 4K and HDR capable TV sets. But alternatively, you could just forget about Sky Glass entirely and buy a decent OLED screen for Sky Stream.
As above, the firmware also appears to resolve various picture break up issues on 4K (UltraHD) content and enhances the existing “Vivid Mode” feature in the options’ menu (i.e. improved contrast and colour saturation), although some people still complain that this makes the image a bit too “vibrant“.

Customers on Sky’s Community Forum suggest that the firmware update started rolling out at the end of November, and we expect it will complete soon, since the operator tends to freeze firmware releases over the festive period.
…however it will cost £10 extra to apply it and then £5 a month 😉
@John LMFAO!! – too right.
Is IPv6 now supported I wonder?
for £5 a month, activation fee is £10
sky will eventually start charging you everytime you turn the tv on.
I hear they are charging £5 for skippig adverts or something.
Best avoid these in these difficult times.
Are people actually buying this crap?
Anything worth watching from Sky can be so easily pirated.
If everyone pirated, who would pay for the content, someone else?
My guess is they would just add more product placement to cover the loss
I take it you also steal from your local supermarket? After all why pay for stuff when you can get it for free!! lmao
The thing to remember is that piracy isn’t theft, it’s copyright infringement, a big difference. It’s not stealing since the owner still has the content and that’s why there’s a different term for it.
I am afraid to many ppl still do. They are so much into the PL and their team and there is no competition hence why they have these extraordinary prices.
If 50% of ppl would cancel their subscription, it would put pressure on sky to lower their price. Personally i refuse to pay for TV (SKY etc). I have FreeView and pay for Netflix, Disney and Apple TV, I am about to ditch the last two.
@RaptorX
Whether you want to call it “theft” or “copyright infringement”, its still illegal.

@Alan Oh yes of course and morally bankrupt, too. The distinction between theft and infringement is important though, that’s all I’m saying.
I have Sky and like the convenience of it but I am starting to fall out of love with it a little. I have prime free most of the year and I get Netflix free via a friend
Over 50% of our tv is streamed (including via Sky)
Sky don’t help themselves. I looked at this last night. They want £5 to skip the ads. They want £39 a month if you want 31 days rolling but then say this is also an 18 month term. You have to pay extra for HD and for UHD and Netlfix is 1 device in 720.. All for the above price.
