UK ISP Zzoomm Launch Cheaper FTTP Broadband Packages

Network builder and UK ISP Zzoomm has today launched a new range of packages and prices on their multi-gigabit speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network, which appears to make gaining access to faster speeds on their service even more affordable than before.

The operator, which aims to reach 1 million premises across 85 UK towns by the end of 2025 (they’ve so far completed 100,000 premises across 29 locations), has generally focused their full fibre builds on smaller towns in parts Berkshire, Oxfordshire, Herefordshire, North Yorkshire, Staffordshire, Wiltshire, West Yorkshire and Cheshire.

NOTE: Zzoomm is fuelled by an equity investment of £100m from Oaktree Capital (here) and a £100m debt facility via an international banking consortium (here).

Until today, customers who took their service would typically pay from £33 per month for an unlimited 150Mbps (symmetric speed) package on a 24-month term with an included WiFi 6 router, which went up to £99 if you wanted their top 2Gbps tier (or £66 for 900Mbps+). Most packages also attracted a £20 one-off activation fee.

However, the new packages replace their 24-month contract terms with a shorter 12-month term, while also adding free installation (no £20 activation fee) and cheaper post-discount monthly prices. Prices now start from £29.95 per month for their 150Mbps tier and rise to £64.95 on their 2Gbps plan or £39.95 for 1Gbps. All packages are also being discounted to just £19.95 a month for the first 3 months of service.

The provider is also continuing with their pledge of “no in-contract price rises.”

Well that’s a sure fire way to annoy existing customers locked into 24 month contracts.

The 2Gbps package £35 cheaper today than yesterday.

Obviously this reduction in pricing is to try and fight against the big boys as in out area Openreach have just started accepting FTTP orders.

If they had the six months free offer then they are getting it cheaper per month, even if they are locked into 24 months, that 6 months free offer was flipping good.

I thought this new thing was a new offer, but I may be way, and maybe this is a permanent thing for new customers.

While this new offer/packages what ever you want to call them is a bit more expensive over 12/24 months than the last offer, it is good to see that it is a 12-month contract. One of the reasons I did not take up the Zzoomm offer was because I did not want to be locked into a 24-month contract.

We have had a choice of openreach and Zzoomm here just before Christmas. i still have just over 4 months in my contract, so plenty of time to decide what to do, but i must admit the 12 month thing have made me a bit more open to go with Zzoomm, but I still don’t really need that speed.

The reason why providers are now reducing their prices is because they know openreach are about to launch their 1.2 and 1.8gbps services on fttp. If you look at Virgin they are now selling gig1 for 39.99.
Now is not the best time to change or upgrade. Wait until April when the new service is due to be launched.

They have to compete at the end of the day, not sure if it has anything to do with openreach launching faster speeds and now2 the useless Ofcom have told Openreach that they can reduce prices, Alt networks have no choice. I wonder if openreach new services with be symmetric?

    4. Avatar photo Jack says:

They replied to a customer on Facebook with this “you are fortunate enough to be enjoying/have enjoyed 6 months of totally free broadband – that’s a pretty good deal if you ask us. Upgrades are totally possible at the pricing of services when you contracted originally.”

While I do agree in sorts I disagree that if an existing customer wants to upgrade to the 2Gbps package it should be at the new pricing not the old price when you signed up – that’s poor service, it actually will make me consider others when my contract ends.

Only 12mo contracts too 1/4 of which is heavily discounted. Very very good pricing, particularly at 1G and 2G

I was going to say. Previously it was £99 for 2Gbps IIRC.

And CommunityFibre charge £99 for 3Gbps, so this is commensurate (2/3 of the speed for 2/3 of the price)

  3. Avatar photo Why Why Why ? says:

And still charging an extra £10 a month for a static IP ?!?!

    1. Avatar photo Ad47uk says:

Yeah, they really should have a one off charge for that. I don’t know how much it costs them

Great price on 1G and 2G

Leaving zoom for BT Fibre next week . Had nothing but issues with them . High latency ping times hard wired and the routers are awful .

Stick to the big guns . should have listened to my conscience in the first place

    1. Avatar photo Kenneth says:

Good for you. I have the 900 package and dont see the point in changing to anyone else. I have never had any problems and always get well over 800 meg, and with perfect gaming on the Xbox Series X (according to my nephew). It may cost more but you get what you pay for.

    2. Avatar photo Ad47uk says:

I kind of understand where you are coming from, looking at the zzoomm face ache page I see a fair few people having problems with it, a lot of people say the problem is the router, get a better router and it is fine. Zzoomm is supplying a new router now, so I was told by one of their sales reps, still the same make. In theory, Zzoomm network is far better than openreach due to the symmetric speed, just as long as it is reliable.
I know 2 households that are on Zzoomm, one I visited last week, and they seem happy with it, but they did have to wait a while before it was activated, the others are a couple of doors down, I keep meaning to speak to them to see how it is for them, but in the winter you just don’t see people so often.
If I was going for FTTP, and certainly now that Zzoomm offers a 12 months contract, I would try ZZoomm, but I would use my own router.

The big guns don’t always get it right either, I had a problem with Openreach FTTC network a few years ago, only a Huawei modem would sync to their network and Openreach had no idea why as their own equipment would not sync in my house and they could not get it to at the cabinet either.

Also, someone I chat to online is on BT FTTP, paying for 500Mb/s, but only getting the 145Mb/s for some reason,
