Rural network builder and UK ISP GoFibre, which is deploying a new 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network across the North of England and Scottish Borders, has today announced their new full fibre network has started to go live in the Aberdeenshire towns of Portlethen and Newtonhill.
The operator, which is currently being supported by funding of £164m from Gresham House (BSIF), ultimately aims to extend their full fibre network across 500,000 premises in the North of England and Scottish Borders by around the end of 2025 (here).
One small part of that plan involves the deployment to 4,500 homes and businesses in Portlethen and Newtonhill, which started last November. The good news is that GoFibre has now completed that network construction, which complements their other Aberdeenshire build in Stonehaven.

Neil Conaghan, CEO of GoFibre, said:
“It is with great pleasure that we announce that our full fibre broadband network is now live and available to residents of Portlethen and Newtonhill.
The completion of construction marks a significant step forward in our aim to close the digital divide across rural areas with our network already bringing transformational speeds to the residents and businesses of Aberdeenshire.
To any locals or businesses interested in learning more about how our network can benefit them, please do get in touch or register. We give our thanks to all in the area for their patience as we have installed our network.”
Customers of the new service can expect to pay from £36 per month for a 100Mbps package on a 24-month term with an included wireless router, which rises to £69 per month for their top 1000Mbps plan. The latter also comes with a bonus Wi-Fi extender (this can optionally be taken on other plans for just £5 per month extra).
I placed my order last week.
Install is going to be within the next 12 weeks.
Got 20% off the standard price so £36 for the length of the contract for the 300Mbps option.
