The Telcom Group (ClearFibre, WeFibre, HyperCity etc.), which via its UK sub-brands operates various fixed wireless (FWA) and 10Gbps capable “full fibre” broadband and Ethernet networks across parts of England, has today opened their networks up to wholesale via the launch of GigaBritain™ to channel partners.
At present Telcom is both building and managing a number of its own full fibre and fixed wireless networks in Manchester, Birmingham, Leeds, Liverpool and soon to be Cardiff. The operator has also recently gobbled up Luminet’s mix of wireless and full fibre networks in London.
The operator is now opening these networks up to wholesale via the GigaBritain™ brand and promoting the ability to deliver “hyperfast” 10Gbps connectivity in as little as 20 days (for some other operators it can be from 90 to 120 days) with a 100% uptime guarantee available. To ensure national coverage, Telcom has also partnered with national carriers such as BT Wholesale, Virgin Media Business and Sky Business to further underpin the movement.

Will Goodall, Telcom’s Head of Wholesale and Carrier, said:
“The event was a great success and we were delighted at the partners’ reaction to GigaBritain, informing us that it was a relief to finally see a company focusing on the personal side of business rather than the transactional side.
As expected, many of them said that our presence in the channel is like a breath of fresh air and this change in the industry is long overdue. Unlike other channel providers who can’t be flexible, our dedicated partner delivery team and in-house engineering means we can own expectation setting and adapt to the end user requirements of every partner.
We are a dynamic company that thrives on change and having the agility to meet customers’ needs. We look forward to working with our new channel partners on this exciting journey and to their help in building GigaBritain together to suit their requirements and their customers.”
The new services will be available via the GigaBritain™ wholesale portal, where partners can access and compare real-time availability, delivery lead times and live pricing from all carrier partners 24/7. All of this is being supported by the operator’s own team of over 120 civil, infrastructure and network engineers.

Presumably trying to drive up take up
Yes for sure, as we all know take-up is key, there’s no getting away from it. If you can’t achieve decent take-up then it’s plain and simple the poorly planned business models will fail.
Investors will quickly see through all the shiny suits, sham award ceremonies, fancy speeches and unlimited Prosecco on tap.
Rumour is Cityfibre, one of the larger Altnets, are in the process of another round of cut backs and redundancies.
I’m sure you’ll see this confirmed next week.
@John
Surely not, it’s been less than 12 months since Cityfibre’s last redundancies? That was quite a major cut too, about 1/5 of employees if I remember correctly?
Maybe you know something we don’t!
Certainly trying to drive take up, but the problem they have is that for large ISPs there’s a considerable cost to engaging with wholesale partners. Unless there’s sufficient prospect of quite large sales then the large ISPs won’t bother, and you can already see this with various altnets who offer wholesale access, but have very limited choice of ISP.
That’s why the altnets need a common wholesale platform that offers standardised T&Cs (and possibly pricing), with contracts between ISPs and the wholesaler, not ISP>individual altnet.
Looks like they parted ways with their CEO according to companies house.
