The annual Connected Britain Awards 2024 (Total Telecom) have once again taken place this week, which among other things saw full fibre and fixed wireless ISP Wildanet scoop he coveted “Broadband Provider of the Year” award, while Brsk won the “Full Fibre ISP Innovation Award” and CityFibre was named for the “Project Rollout Award“.
All of the organisations that entered – spanning across various different categories – were assessed by a large panel of judges, which included key figures from various analyst firms, consultants, network operators, universities and various other companies or organisations with industry links.
The final list doesn’t currently include a useful description of why each winner was chosen, although our regular readers should be able to guess most of them.

Interesting results and well done to the winners. I have been with Vigin Media since the days of blueyonder and never changed. Why? quite simply, no other ISP can offer the same speeds Virgin does through their current technology in my area. Also, there seems to be a lack of interest in investing in real or hybrid FTTP from anyone else, despite the fact the infrastructure is getting there. VM will I’m sure update at some point to FTTP for home users, but for the moment, I’m happy to stay with them.
Would it be too much to wonder how many live connections the finalists of the Broadband Provider of the Year award have?
!, the uptake of their claimed (potential) coverage – woudl be even better to to identify duplication of services, and their geographic coverage, i.e. their overal contribution as a geo % of the UK…
And how much getting to all the awards has cost, and how it benifits UK users, rather than ‘marketing’ material, to taxpayers and consumerss alike.
If a fop like HS2 is basically public purse, youd think a full overhaul of the pstn should just be a national network, rather than a picemeal fragnet of dozens of ‘profit’ expectors ?
