A new study that collected data from Ookla’s popular Speedtest.net service for benchmarking internet connections has named BT as the fastest of the major UK broadband ISPs, beating out competition from Virgin Media, Vodafone, Sky Broadband, Plusnet (part of the BT Group) and last place sitter TalkTalk.

Mobile benchmarking firm RootMetrics (Ookla) has this morning published their H1 2026 study of UK mobile networks (calls, texts etc.) and mobile broadband (4G, 5G) speeds. The results once again name EE as the best mobile operator after they scooped up the highest scores and fastest data speeds across most categories.

Ofcom has this morning published their latest Q1 2026 study of quarterly UK consumer telecoms and TV complaints, which reports that TalkTalk attracted the most complaints from customers for fixed broadband services, while Sky Mobile came top of the naughty table for Mobile services and EE did the same for Pay TV. But complaint volumes have fallen to their lowest ever level.

The UK Internet Service Providers Association (ISPA) has today unveiled the shortlist of finalists for their 2026 annual industry awards event, which sees 70 separate organisations (broadband ISPs, network builders etc.) being nominated across 13 “revised categories“. But a few categories won’t be finalised until a little later.

Internet speed testing organisation SpeedOf.Me has published their H1 2026 Data report for the first half of the year, which among other things reveals that the United Kingdom ranked a respectable 14th out of 119 countries with an average (median) download speed of 82.8Mbps. Data for upload speeds and latency is also included.

The Comms Council UK, which represents the UK’s national Unified Communications and Voice-over-Internet-Protocol (VoIP) phone industry, has today revealed the winners of their 18th annual 2026 awards event at a ceremony at Kitty Hawk in London. Some of the winners include Nebula, 8×8, Zayo and Daktela others.

Comparison site Uswitch.com has announced that 13 UK Internet Service Providers (ISP) have today been awarded with its 2026 Broadband Excellence Accreditation, which is more than double last year and are said to reflect the ongoing regional deployment of full fibre networks.

The SpeedGeo project, which compares internet connection quality by benchmarking the speeds of real users, has published their Q2 2026 results and once again named Virgin Media as the fastest fixed broadband ISP. At the same time they’ve also named Three UK as the fastest mobile broadband (4G, 5G) operator. But there are caveats.

The MVNOs World Awards 2026 were held this month, which among other things saw a few UK based mobile and telecoms operators walking away with wins. For example, SIM-only mobile provider spusu was named the “Leading Consumer MVNO/Sub-Brand“, while BT took home the “Host Operator Excellence Award“.

The fifth annual 2026 UK Fibre Awards event took place last night at the London Marriott Grosvenor Square Hotel, which saw a number of broadband ISPs and full fibre network builders across multiple categories pick up awards for their achievements. Some of the winners included Quickline for ‘Best Rural Fibre Provider’ and Squirrel Internet for ‘Best ISP‘, among others.

French benchmarking firm nPerf has today published the results from an unusual new study, which compared the fastest average mobile broadband download speeds (4G and 5G) of 20 countries with a similar size (land area) to Poland. The results saw the United Kingdom rank 3rd with an average speed of 105.8Mbps.

Opensignal, which gathers crowdsourced data via consumer speedtests on its App, has published the results from a new study that examined fixed broadband speeds across 18 European markets, including the United Kingdom and Turkey. Overall the UK ranked 6th for download speed (119Mbps), 13th for upload speed (39.4Mbps) and 3rd for Consistent Quality (CQ).

A new study from Broadband Genie has analysed 144,509 broadband speed tests over a 12-month period to find the best and worst locations and ISPs in the UK where your internet download speed drops at peak times. Overall the report finds that Wigan experienced the biggest drop at peak times (average fall of -55%), while Airband saw the biggest fall for ISPs (-45%).

Broadband and mobile operator Vodafone UK has, for the third year running, topped a new network benchmarking study of 4G and 5G (mobile broadband and calls) performance across London, which was conducted by the Berlin-based NET CHECK group. But sadly Three UK found themselves at the bottom of the study.
