Merseyside-based alternative broadband ISP BeFibre, which sells packages via FullFibre Limited’s Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network, has today announced that they’ve just connected their first customer to the provider’s recently launched 2.3Gbps speed package (here). The user in Leominster recorded a top symmetric speed of 2,373Mbps.

Be2300 represents an important step forward in our service,” said Louise Elliott, Chief Customer and Operations Officer. “We’re excited to welcome our first of many new MultiGig customers to BeFibre and look forward to delivering a premium broadband experience.”

FullFibre Ltd’s network currently reaches 380,000 premises (RFS) across England and is available to parts of Derbyshire, Essex, Gloucestershire, Greater Manchester, Herefordshire, Lancashire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Merseyside, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, Shropshire, South Yorkshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire.

2.3Gbps down and up £25.00 a month for 3 months then £50.00 a month for the remaining 21 months!

I believe Broseley in Shropshire will get it soon in TF12 area.

What do you need such speed for? 1G seems pretty niche but 2.5G!!

@Neil I’m with Zzoomm on the 2Gig package. 8 of us in our house all using the bandwidth definitely comes in handy. Just because you don’t need such speeds other will. We had 1Gig to begin with and my kids would saturate the bandwidth gaming and downloading etc. We’ve had no issues since upgrading to 2Gig.

Exactly, bring back good old ADSL. No one needs fibre broadband when DVDs and blu rays exist.

Personally I find anything less than 500Mbps has a notable impact on Film quality, I tend to use AppleTV and it has the highest bitrate so slower impacts picture quality. I also work from home, again, a slower connection has a massive impact on that, from Teams/Slack calls to using online tools. Also, my husband is a PC gamer and he is often gaming in his office when I’m working in mine! hahaha We now have 1Gbps as it allows us to throw pretty much anything at it with no issues. And, any friend who works from home and asks, I tend to recommend a min of 500Mbps based on my experience.

You can still use dial-up if that suffices, Neil

Just get an ASUS router and control the bandwidth for each device. Kids probably don’t need 1 Gbps or 2 Gbps. Probably 25 to 75 Mbps is enough for download and upload.

The highest bitrate AppleTV streams at is 40Mbps.

Just tried to upgrade but not in my postcode yet. They’ll have to replace the ONT too as it’s only got a 1gig WAN. Can’t wait for a proper speed like this… finally a decent UK speed at a decent price.
