Alternative network ISP Fibrus, which is deploying their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) infrastructure across parts of Cumbria in England and Northern Ireland, has announced having just surpassed 150,000 customers (up from 142,000 last month). The provider currently covers over 465,000 UK homes with their network (more than 330,000 of those are in N.Ireland).

Colin Hutchinson, MD and CFO of the Fibrus Group, told Penrith Town: “Reaching 150,000 customers across our network is a major milestone for Fibrus and a remarkable achievement for a business that only connected its first customer in 2019. It speaks to the hard work of our teams, the strength of demand for reliable Full Fibre broadband, and the impact our network is already making in communities across the region.”

NOTE: Fibrus has so far invested c. £750m and some £300m has come from government subsidies, with the balance from their senior debt facility and shareholders. Some of their publicly funded builds include Project Stratum (81,000+ premises in N.Ireland) and the Project Gigabit (Hyperfast GB) contracts for 53,500 premises in Cumbria (here) and 9,000 premises in N.Ireland (here).

Fibrus’ most recent company accounts to the end of March 2025 showed annual revenues rose by 67% to £29.5m (2024: £17.6m) and positive EBITDA of £1.5m (2024: -£11.8m), although they also made a net loss for the year of -£57.6m (2024: £53.4m) and had net liabilities of -£62m (2024: -£4.67m).
