Grain’s 2Gbps Speed UK Full Fibre Broadband Network Goes Live in Scunthorpe

Carlisle-based alternative broadband provider Grain, which has so far built their point-to-point full fibre (FTTP) network to cover 300,000 UK premises and connect 56,000 customers, have confirmed that their new network in the Lincolnshire (England) town of Scunthorpe has started to go live for customers.

Regular readers might recall that we first spotted Grain’s civil engineering work occurring in part of Scunthorpe, which is home to a population of around 81,000 people, back in early May 2026 (here). At the time the provider had not yet officially announced the build, but street works were clearly set for the north of the town, initially around the Crosby area.

NOTE: Grain has so far secured funding deals worth somewhere around £500m via Equitix, Albion Capital, Pinnacle Group, German Landesbank Nord L/B, HPS Investment Partners, LLC etc. The operator also secured a key £225m funding boost back in July 2025 (here).

The good news today is that locals can now finally order the service as Grain have confirmed that their network is live, although it doesn’t look as if they’ve expanded much beyond the area we spotted a few months ago (requires further checking to confirm).

The challenge in Scunthorpe is that the town is already home to three gigabit-capable broadband networks via Openreach, Virgin Media (inc. nexfibre) and MS3. In addition, there’s also a small bit of more business-focused full fibre coverage from ITS Technology, which doesn’t leave a lot of space for Grain.

Customers subscribing to Grain’s entry-level 250Mbps Full Fibre package (currently £19.99 per month on a 24-month term) will receive a bill credit of £25, which rises up to the maximum value of £100 if they instead take out the top 2Gbps tier for £29.99 per month. Suffice to say that their pricing seems intended to undercut some of their biggest rivals in the town.

Grain currently aspires to cover 600,000 premises with their full fibre network and they also hold a “longer-term strategy” to exceed 1 million premises passed.
