Sky Glass and Stream UK TV users benefit from major Sky Go app upgrade

Customers of Sky’s broadband-based Sky Glass and Sky Stream pay TV streaming devices and service can now benefit from a “major upgrade” to the supporting Sky Go video streaming app, which takes its visual inspiration (User Interface) from the look and feel of Sky OS (software that powers Glass/Stream) and has added a bunch of new features.

The Sky Go app, which is included at no extra cost alongside a Sky TV subscription (Sky Mobile customers can also stream on the go without using their mobile data – FUP), appears to have been refreshed and expanded in order to make it easier for users to “move between TV, mobile, and tablet without losing their place“.

NOTE: Sky Glass and Sky Stream customers can download Sky Go (Glass/Stream) from the App Store or Google Play.

Most of the changes appear to reflect UI improvements, such as via the use of a simple new navigation bar that puts Home, the TV Guide, My Library, Sport, and Search within easy reach. But there’s also now full HD (1080p) streaming and the ability to set live TV recordings while out etc.

The revamped app is presently only available to iOS and Android users, but Sky also states that customers will “soon” be able to access the new version of the Sky Go app on their laptop too. No firm date was provided.

Key Features of the Sky Go Upgrade

Continue Watching: Find recently watched shows in one easy-to-access row and, where available, pick up where viewing left off across TV, mobile and tablet.

My Library: Find available shows, movies and sport that have been saved for later, downloaded, set to record on TV, or watched recently, all in one place.

Set recording: Hit record on live TV and sports events while out, so it’s ready to watch on Sky Glass and Sky Stream at home.

Full HD streaming: Watch in up to 1080p full HD video on compatible devices and connections.

Sport: Browse the dedicated Sport section, search by sport, follow Premier League teams and quickly see what is live and what is coming up next.

Sky OS Inspired: Enjoy the simple, recognisable Sky OS experience on mobile and tablet, with familiar content rows, clear navigation and new film and show pages making it easier to browse and discover what to watch.

Carli Kerr, MD of Sky TV & NOW TV, said: “Great entertainment should fit around customers’ lives. Millions of customers already use Sky Go to watch what they love when they’re out and about. The new version is designed for Sky Glass and Sky Stream customers, bringing more of the experience they enjoy on the big screen to their devices, so it’s easier to pick up a show, follow the match or set something to record wherever they are.”

Sky points out that existing customers on their older Sky Q platform can continue using Sky Go (Q/+), giving them access to live and on demand TV, films and sport across devices, as well as remote recording. Those with Sky Q Multiscreen can also download recordings directly from their Sky Q box to watch when they’re not at home.
