Broadband and wireless network provider Connexin, which in March 2025 sold their full fibre network to CityFibre (here), has today announced that they’ve secured a financing package worth up to £35m to support the continued deployment and growth of their Long Range Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN)-based IoT smart water meter network across the UK.
The package comprises a £10 million facility from Santander UK, alongside a £5 million revolving trade facility, £10 million of financing provided through PATRIZIA-managed funds, and a further £10 million accordion facility, providing Connexin with total potential funding capacity of up to £35 million.
The goal of this is to support the “large-scale rollout of critical smart water infrastructure“. Back in August 2025 Connexin revealed that their LoRaWAN wireless network had already connected 250,000 UK smart water meters across several leading suppliers – including Northumbrian Water, Essex & Suffolk Water, Yorkshire Water, and Severn Trent Water. But the provider intends to spread this even further.

Furqan Alamgir, Founder & CEO of Connexin, said:
“This is a landmark transaction for Connexin and an important step in our mission to build smarter, more connected infrastructure that helps tackle some of society’s biggest challenges.
The water sector is facing enormous pressure, from scarcity and leakage to ageing infrastructure. We believe better data and the ability to turn that data into better decisions, will be fundamental to solving these challenges.
Smart meters and sensors are creating an unprecedented view of how our water networks are performing. Through ConnexinOS and our business intelligence capabilities, we can bring that data together and turn billions of data points into actionable intelligence, helping water companies anticipate problems, target investment and make faster, smarter decisions.
For us, smart metering is about much more than connecting a meter. It is about building the data and intelligence layer for the water sector. This financing gives us the capacity to accelerate that vision and help create a future where critical infrastructure is connected, intelligent and increasingly predictive.”
Connexin isn’t just building the infrastructure required to support such meters, they’re also combining it with ConnexinOS and business intelligence to provide water companies with greater visibility of how water is being used across their networks and support better data-led decisions.
Smart metering is often said to be an increasingly important part of the UK’s response to water scarcity and ageing infrastructure. By providing water companies and their customers with significantly better information on consumption, smart meter networks can help identify leakage, reduce unnecessary consumption and enable more efficient management of water resources.

Interesting, I was installing these systems for Netmore a few years back. I notice alot more of them around these days.
Not suprising to see connexion pivot like this, wonder how much vibe coding they’re doing
“critical smart water infrastructure“,
Critical ? How have we survived to date without this ‘critical’ infrastricture.
Someone would be much better in fixing (manageing even) water leaks/waste and pollution than help with the water they can’t supply (hose pipe bans’) because of decades of lousy ‘managememnt’, and of course ‘regulation’ by Ofrot. Nodoubt all a scheme to end up charging consumers more to fatten the Cx)’s and shareholders rape of ‘customers’ no?
