The member‑owned and not-for-profit London Internet Exchange (LINX), which manages a large chunk of UK and global data traffic through their switches via 900 members (broadband ISPs, mobile operators, CDNs etc.), has today has launched its Cloud Connect service at their Manchester exchange to increase resilience and improve control over cloud connectivity.
Cloud Connect essentially works by providing direct access via members’ existing LINX ports to Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud Platform (GCP), which has the benefit of reducing latency, increasing resilience and improving control over cloud connectivity.
The move follows shortly after LINX saw their regional IXP in Manchester tip the 1Tbps mark in traffic, placing it within the top 10 IXPs in Europe. LINX Manchester is currently home to over 130 networks connected from its five data centre partner points of access.

Jennifer Holmes, CEO of LINX, said:
“A strong focus and growth in the North of the UK is also part of our strategy for the next three years. This may be new strategic partners or product innovation, but our core services and member experience, including our technical expertise and 24/7 NOC remains constant and to a high level.”
Cloud Connect is thus now available at both LON1 in London and LINX Manchester.
