Customers of UK ISP Virgin Media’s home broadband, phone and TV packages should now be able to access O2’s Priority app, which is normally exclusive to O2’s customers and is a way of rewarding them with various offers from high street brands, tickets and experiences – all at no extra cost.

Ofcom’s Q2 2021 Complaints Study Shames UK ISP TalkTalk

Ofcom has published their latest Q2 2021 (calendar) consumer complaints study, which saw TalkTalk come top of the naughty table for gripes about their fixed line home broadband and phone services. Meanwhile, Virgin Media took the most flak for Mobile and Pay TV, although overall complaints were down.

Vodafone UK Grows to 962k Fixed Broadband ISP Customers

ISP and mobile operator Vodafone UK has today published their latest quarterly results (financial Q2 FY22), which reveals that their fixed broadband base added another +22,000 customers (vs +29k in the previous quarter) to make for a total base of 962,000. But their mobile base sat unchanged on 16,994,000.

Estate Agents Find Full Fibre May Help to Drive UK House Sales

A new survey of 294 UK estate agents, which was conducted by telecoms equipment manufacturer Omdia on behalf of Huawei, has found that the desire for “high-quality broadband” continues to be a significant factor for home buyers and access to gigabit-capable “full fibre” (FTTP) ISP connections seems to be particularly important.

Fujikura Subsidiary AFL Opens First UK Site to Make New Fibre Cable

AFL, a subsidiary of Fujikura in Japan, has today officially opened a new facility in Swindon (Wiltshire) that will become their first factory in the UK and Europe to produce a “new” type of fibre optic broadband cable, which is being used by network operators like Openreach (BT) to support their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) rollout.

3,835 UK Schools are in Postcodes with No Access to Full Fibre

New data from the UK Government’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and Schools Minister, Robin Walker, has revealed that 3,835 schools are in postcodes “that do not have access” to full fibre broadband connectivity “or are currently not in areas of proposed commercial build within the next five years“.

Openreach to Pilot National UK Exchange Closure Plan in 5 Areas

Last year Openreach (BT) began consulting on their plans to close 4,600 exchanges across the United Kingdom as part of their move from copper to fibre optic based broadband ISP lines. CityFibre Set GBP32m Full Fibre Rollout for Redcar and Hartlepool

CityFibre has today committed £32m to support the rollout of a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network across both the North Yorkshire (England) seaside town of Redcar and the large port town of Hartlepool in County Durham. Ofcom Fine Met Technologies and Guaranteed Telecom for SLAMMING

Ofcom has today fined two little-known UK broadband ISPs – Met Technologies (Met Plus Telecom and Millenium Talk) and Guaranteed Telecom (Zoom Telecom) – a total of £35,000 after they were found to have switched 110 consumers to their service without permission (SLAMMING).
