Derry-based fixed wireless ISP Beacon Broadband has been offered £48,000 by Invest Northern Ireland (Invest NI) to help fuel the creation of 12 new jobs, which will support the expansion of their network in Northern Ireland via additional engineers, support staff and management roles.

The Worcestershire County Council (WCC) has launched two new schemes to help boost “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) take-up and coverage among homes and businesses in the final 4% of the region, which includes a co-funding initiative with Openreach (BT) and a voucher programme for local businesses.

UK ISP Community Fibre has managed to hit their deployment target in the London Borough of Wandsworth by making a 1000Mbps capable ultrafast fibre optic (FTTP/H) broadband network available to 10,000 council homes in time for the end of 2017. Just another 10,000 left to go.

Alternative ISP Voneus, which has deployed their ‘up to’ 100Mbps capable and fibre optic fed fixed wireless broadband network into a number of UK rural areas, has now acquired another rival provider – SugarNet – for an undisclosed sum. The move follows last October’s acquisition (here) of Cotswold Wireless.

UK internet provider BT has today launched a new range of “ultrafast fibre broadband” packages to support both the latest hybrid fibre G.fast and “full fibre” FTTP technologies, which offer download speeds of up to 152Mbps and 314Mbps. On top of that there’s a 100Mbps “speed guarantee.”

The Suffolk Chamber of Commerce, which touts itself as being the voice of local businesses in that corner of South East England, has called on the UK Government to deliver 10 times faster broadband speeds than those being pledged as part of the 10Mbps Universal Service Obligation (USO) for 2020.
