Alternative network builder and gigabit broadband ISP toob, which is deploying a full fibre (FTTP) network across parts of South England (they’re also sharing some of CityFibre’s infrastructure), has recently revealed that they’ve managed to grow their customer base to over 50,000 (up from 20,000 a year ago).

The Lifford Gardens and The Sands residents association, which represents part of Broadway (village) in Worcestershire (England), has been granted a Judicial Review (JR) in the High Court that may allow them to challenge the local council’s decision to allow deployment of a new gigabit-capable broadband network using wood poles.

Some customers of mobile network operator Lyca Mobile, which is a virtual operator (MVNO) on EE’s platform in the UK, are reporting that they’ve been unable to access the provider’s latest and fastest 5G (mobile broadband) connectivity service for around a month. Related users find that only 4G is now available to them.

Broadband ISP Andrews & Arnold (AAISP) has come up with an interestingly quirky way of addressing concerns that Ofcom’s new, and much delayed, One Touch Switch (OTS) system, which aims to make it quicker and easier for consumers to switch internet providers, might make SLAMMING easier (i.e. being switched without your consent).

The long-running 2Africa project, which is in the process of building a 45,000km long subsea (submarine) fibre optic cable between the United Kingdom and most of coastal Africa, has confirmed that telecoms giant Vodafone has just helped to land the new cable in England at a site in Bude (Cornwall).

The third annual UK Fibre Awards event was held yesterday in London, which saw a number of broadband ISPs and full fibre network builders across several categories pick up awards for their achievements. Some of this year’s winners included Wildanet for ‘Best Rural Fibre Provider’ and Brsk for ‘Best Urban Fibre Provider’.

A seemingly fairly new network operator called Frogfoot Networks has revealed that they’re planning to deploy a new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network across the United Kingdom, with England, Wales and Scotland being part of their “initial deployment” that will “predominantly serve residential homes and small businesses.”

UK ISP Cerberus Networks has given ISPreview an unexpected surprise this afternoon after they began informing their customers about their decision to introduce “high-speed satellite internet services“, which will aim to deliver broadband speeds of “up to 150Mbps” and should complement their existing range of fixed line plans.

The wholesale division of broadband and Ethernet provider Virgin Media UK (VMO2) are suing the “owners and all persons claiming an interest” in a fishing trawler, the Irish-registered MV The Lida Suzanna, for €800k (£680k) after the ship allegedly damaged one of their subsea fibre optic cables between Ireland and England.

Network access provider Openreach (BT) has been fined £1.34m (inc. costs of £15,858) by the Llandudno Magistrates Court in Wales for breaching Health and Safety laws for staff working near water. The case occurred after one of its engineers – Alun Owen (32) – tragically died after being swept away by a flooded river in October 2020.

Alternative network operator and UK ISP Brsk has today announced that their roll-out of a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network is being extended to include 60,000 premises across St Helens in Merseyside, and neighbouring Ashton-in-Makerfield in Wigan, Greater Manchester.
