Connexin FTTP Cabinet on Crane

Broadband ISP Connexin has today announced a new agreement with network integrator firm STL, which will see them invest a further £3m to take on rival KCOM and extend their 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network across 22,000 premises in the East Yorkshire (England) market town of Beverley.

Telecoms giant BT has today unveiled the development of a new IP transmission technology, called MAUD (Multicast-Assisted Unicast Delivery), which promises to be a more reliable, quality-focused and sustainable way of delivering content (e.g. video and TV) over the internet – doing it in a way that’s both cheaper and more efficient.

Mobile network operators including EE (BT), Vodafone, Three UK and O2 (VMO2) are facing a class action claim worth “at least” £3.285bn from consumer rights champion Justin Gutmann and the law firm Charles Lyndon, which accuses them of historically overcharging for mobile handsets beyond the end of their contractual term.

Network operator CityFibre has announced that they’ve managed to reach a new landlord agreement (wayleave) with the Newark and Sherwood District Council in Nottinghamshire, England. The deal will enable them to roll-out their full fibre (FTTP) broadband ISP network to cover an additional 500 homes in the area.

In somewhat of an industry first, Virgin Media (VMO2) has today announced that they’re launching a new awareness campaign for their cheaper broadband social tariffs, which will see the ISP contacting every one of their 5 million UK customers to make them aware of the option and offer to support those struggling with bills. O2 also plan a mobile social tariff.

Telecoms giant BT has revealed that the overall volume of internet traffic across their fixed broadband ISP network reached a new peak of 30.1Tbps (Terabits per second) last night at around 9pm, which is up from around 28Tbps last year and 25Tbps in 2021.

Openreach has today revealed that their £57m state aid supported Phase 2 Superfast Cymru contracts with the Welsh Government (WG), which required them to extend their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband ISP network to 39,000 extra premises in rural Wales, ultimately delivered 44,000 and came in under budget.

The latest independent data has revealed that a shade over 80% of “homes” across the United Kingdom can now access a gigabit-capable broadband ISP connection (1000Mbps+), which is up from just over 72% at the end of last year. The figure drops to 60% when only looking at Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) technology (up from 45%).
