A new study from crowd-sourced mobile benchmarking firm Opensignal has highlighted how mobile broadband users in Germany, Italy and the UK saw “significantly faster” 5G average download speeds when they were also connected to additional amounts of 4G spectrum, through older 4G technology.

Mobile operator giffgaff has recently announced that they’re launching a brand-new golden goodybag (mobile plan), just for students. Students will be able to access a special £10 goodybag, which provides 13GB of data (3GB more data than giffgaff’s regular £10 golden goodybag), as well as unlimited UK calls and texts and EU roaming.

Colt Technology Services and Getlink have today signed an exclusive new 25-year agreement to install and operate a new multi-Terabit speed fibre optic IQ Network through the Channel Tunnel, which runs between the UK (Folkestone, Kent) and France (Coquelles, Pas-de-Calais) under the English Channel sea.

UK ISP Zzoomm, which is currently in the process of building its own multi-gigabit speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network to reach 1 million premises across 85 UK towns by the end of 2025, has adopted symmetric speeds across all of their packages and boosted the underlying rates at no extra cost.

Back in 2019 we reported that a subsidiary of French communications provider Axione S.A.S, Axione UK, planned to rollout a wholesale Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network for ISPs to harness in the UK (here). The operator has now setup a new company, Axione Fibre, to do exactly that with £300m of initial funding.

Full fibre broadband ISP Grain Connect, which recently secured a major £75 million equity investment from Equitix (here), has today announced that their gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network is being extended to cover the large Lancashire town of Accrington – home to a population of around 35,000.

But the UK government has launched a consultation that seeks to “level the regulatory playing field,” which may force streaming services to adopt stricter rules.

Rochdale-based UK ISP Zen Internet has quietly stopped selling Openreach’s (BT) hybrid fibre G.fast based “ultrafast broadband” products, which were first launched by the provider back in 2018 alongside average download speeds of 145Mbps (30Mbps upload) or 300Mbps (50Mbps upload).

American firm ADTRAN, which is known for supplying a variety of full fibre broadband kit and services to UK ISPs and network builders from Openreach (BT) to CommunityFibre and more, has announced a new deal to merge with a similar European telecommunications vendor called ADVA in order to boost their global reach.
