UK ISP Fibrus, which is deploying a new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband networks across N.Ireland and the North of England, has today claimed that it now “offers [the] fastest broadband services in Northern Ireland” and has “launched” a “service at 10 Gigabits per second (Gbps)“. But no, you can’t actually buy this.. yet.

O2 UK Recommits to Inclusive EU Mobile Roaming as Standard

Mobile operator O2 (VMO2) has recommitted to continue their existing policy of retaining inclusive EU roaming as a standard feature on their plans, which they claim could be helping to save an average family of four around £100 during a two-week trip away. Across the UK, this could be saving as much as £3m per week throughout 2022.

Worcestershire UK Council Target 90% Gigabit Broadband by 2027

The Worcestershire County Council (WCC) in England has committed to help ensure that 90% of premises across the county will be able to access a gigabit-capable broadband ISP network by 2027, which will be partly funded via clawback (gainshare) from their earlier rollout programme with Openreach (Superfast Worcestershire).

Mobile operator Three UK has confirmed that they too have joined EE (here) and Vodafone (here) in starting to rollout their ultrafast 5G (mobile broadband) service on the London Underground (tube trains), with Archway, Tufnell Park, and Notting Hill Gate stations this week becoming the first to be upgraded.

But their “provisional” view is “not intervene“, which is likely to anger alternative networks (AltNets).

Vodafone UK Follows EE to Deploy 5G on London Underground

Mobile operator Vodafone has confirmed that customers using the Notting Hill Gate station on the London Underground have started to receive their ultrafast 5G (mobile broadband) signal. The tunnels from Holland Park to Queensway (Central Line) and Archway to Kentish Town (Northern Line) will follow by the weekend.

Ofcom UK Sets Out Expectations for 2G and 3G Mobile Switch-Off

Ofcom has today set out their “expectations” for how they want mobile operators – Three UK, Vodafone, EE (BT) and O2 (VMO2 / Virgin Media) – to approach the phased switch-off of legacy 2G and 3G mobile services. The goal being to ensure consumers are “treated fairly” and aren’t left cut-off from vital services.

BT Results See Openreach Near 10 Million FTTP Premises Milestone

The BT Group has today published their latest Q3 FY23 results to December 2022, which saw the coverage of Openreach’s Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network reach 9.57 million premises (up by 810k in the quarter vs 805k last quarter) and EE increase their 5G customer based to 8.5 million (up from 8.157m).

CityFibre Restructures to Keep UK FTTP Plan on Track – Cuts 400 Jobs UPDATE

CityFibre has reportedly begun a new restructuring process that could result in the loss of up to 400 jobs out of their 2,000 strong workforce. The operator has blamed this on the UK’s “struggling” economy (i.e. causing rising costs for their business) and the desire to keep their rollout of full fibre gigabit broadband on track.

Alternative network builder and UK ISP Zzoomm has today announced that their multi-gigabit speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network has now covered 100,000 premises across 29 locations. The figure is double the 50,000 they reported in July 2022 and ten times more than the 10,000 they had in December 2021.
