2020 H2 – UK Cover of Gigabit Broadband Reaches 37.4 Percent

The latest independent study of UK broadband coverage for H2 2020 has estimated that “full fibre” (FTTP) ISP networks have now increased their reach to 19.2% of premises (up from 14.8% in H1), while 37.4% are within reach of “gigabit” speeds (up from 22.1%) and 64.3% can get 100Mbps+ (up from 61.7%).

Switching Study Claims 5 Million UK People Overpay for Broadband

A new survey of 3,000 UK adults has estimated that around 5.38 million households who are out of contract with their current fixed broadband ISP have been discouraged from switching provider due to a lack of confidence in the process, which it’s claimed could result in related users “overpaying” to the tune of £804m (total).

ISP Vodafone UK Offers Free Business Broadband During 2021

Mobile operator and ISP Vodafone UK has launched a new promotion to help small businesses (1 – 50 employees) get through the COVID-19 crisis, which will give new customers (and existing ones who are eligible for an upgrade) 12 months’ of free broadband service on a 36 month minimum term. Cityfibre to Start £32m FTTP Broadband Rollout in Barnsley UK

Cityfibre has today begun to invest £32 million in order to rollout a new 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband ISP network to “nearly every home and business” in the South Yorkshire (England) town of Barnsley, with work already underway.

Netflix UK Hikes Prices for Internet Video Streaming Service

One of the most popular broadband-based unlimited Movie and TV video streaming services, Netflix, has today announced that they are to hike the monthly prices of their ‘Standard‘ and ‘Premium‘ plans for existing customers too. The former will jump from £8.99 to £9.99, while the latter increases from £11.99 to a hefty £13.99.

Meanwhile the current President of Consumer Services for new owner Comcast, Dana Strong, will become Sky’s new CEO.

Bandwidth infrastructure company euNetworks has acquired 100% of the shares of The Loop from UK ISP Gamma, which is a 180km long Dark Fibre network that rings its way around central Manchester, Salford and Trafford.
