UK ISP Andrews & Arnold (AAISP) has announced that they’re preparing to bring the latest model of their core Firebrick routers into service (FireBrick FB9000), which include better hardware and as a result they’ll be able to trial faster broadband speeds on their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based packages.

A new report claims that broadband ISP Trooli, which holds an ambition to reach a “minimum” of 1 million UK premises with their gigabit speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network by the end of 2024, is close to launching an equity sale process that could raise £200m and significantly accelerate their rollout target.

Mobile operator Three UK has today become the latest provider to join the Good Things Foundation’s charitable National Databank scheme, which aims to provide free mobile broadband data to community groups and the people they support to aid internet connectivity – either via SIM cards or vouchers.

Storm Eunice struck the UK today, bringing with it winds gusting up to 80-90mph across large parts of South England and Wales, as well as rain, high seas and – in some parts of Scotland – heavy snowfall. The event has unsurprisingly also caused damage to telecoms (broadband and mobile) infrastructure, resulting in outages.

Lancashire-based business communications provider Daisy Group has today officially acquired rival broadband ISP XLN Telecom, which is home to around 120,000 UK customers, for approximately £200 million. The move is expected to expand Daisy’s customer base in the SME sector to over 200,000.

Customers of Sky’s (ISP Sky Broadband) various UK broadband, phone and Pay TV products are now being notified of annual price rises, which as per usual will be introduced between 1st April 2022 (internet and TV) and 1st May 2022 (phone). Letters are now going out gradually, with the last one due to be issued by 25th March.

Customers of both O2 and Virgin Mobile (Virgin Media) today found out what sort of price hikes they can expect this year after the latest Retail Price Index (RPI) rate of inflation was published, which hit 7.8%. The operators then add another 3.9% on top, which means customers can expect their bills to rise by a staggering 11.7%.
