Fixed wireless and full fibre ISP Lothian Broadband, which reaches across rural parts of East Lothian, Mid Lothian and the Highlands of Scotland, has warned some of its customers on their Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) network that nearby exercises by the UK military (MoD) may disrupt their internet connectivity.

Alternative UK network ISP Jurassic Fibre, which at the end of last year announced that their 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network would be deploying across the Somerset market town of Bridgwater (here), may soon face off against a new deployment from rival operator Virgin Media in the same location.

Openreach has started to deploy a new 25 tonne “Clean Fast” machine in the United Kingdom, which is a significantly faster, cleaner and quieter way of digging their new optical fibre cables into the ground. The kit is currently being tested around the rural Hope Valley (near Derwent Dam) in Derbyshire.

Alternative UK network ISP County Broadband, which is currently deploying a 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) service across rural parts of England, has today announced that an initial 36 villages in Cambridgeshire have now been “earmarked for funding” to receive their full fibre service.

Ofcom has published their 2021 survey of UK broadband ISP and mobile service quality, call waiting times, complaints and install times among the largest providers. Overall TalkTalk attracted the lowest satisfaction for broadband (77%), while Three UK did the same for mobile (86%). Generally, customer service has taken a COVID-19 hit.

Customers of BT’s UK broadband service, specifically those with the provider’s latest Smart Hub 2 (SH2) router, have been told to expect a firmware update over the next 4-5 weeks that should fix a bug with the device’s WiFi (wireless) networking, which has caused connectivity problems on the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands.

Some 2,500 extra homes in the large West Yorkshire (England) village of Shelf have just become the latest to benefit from the expansion of Virgin Media’s new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband and TV network, which by the end of 2021 will also be able to deliver gigabit speeds to locals.

Openreach (BT) has today taken the next step towards upgrading from analogue to digital services via the issuing of a “stop sell” notification in the trial area of Mildenhall (Suffolk), which means that new customers will now only be able to take all-IP (digital / VoIP) based phone and broadband services (no more analogue phones etc.).

A new study from consumer magazine Which? has warned that millions of UK consumers may be “at risk of being hacked in their homes” because the “outdated” broadband router they use, as supplied by several major ISPs including EE, Sky Broadband, TalkTalk, Virgin Media and Vodafone, could contain potential security flaws.

Broadband ISP and TV provider Virgin Media UK (Liberty Global) has just published their latest Q1 2021 results, which saw their network coverage extend to another 80,000 premises (their slowest quarterly build so far) and their internet access base add +38,500 customers (up from +54.7k last quarter) to total 5,458,600.

UK ISP BT has issued their second biannual report into the progress they’ve made toward delivering the 10Mbps Universal Service Obligation for broadband, which reveals they’re building USO connections that cover nearly 5,000 homes and have introduced a new cost sharing system to help communities afford an upgrade.

Budget UK broadband ISP TalkTalk has today confirmed that their 506Mbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based ‘Future Fibre‘ package is now available on CityFibre’s network in Inverness (Scotland) and Coventry. Meanwhile another ISP, BrawBand (HighNet), is due to live on CF’s fibre in Glasgow and Renfrewshire.

Portsmouth-based UK ISP toob, which is deploying a new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network to homes and businesses in the South of England (e.g. Hampshire and Surrey), has signed a new deal to harness the existing optical fibre infrastructure from Neos Networks to boost their rollout.

London focused UK ISP CommunityFibre, which is currently deploying their 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network across the capital city, has signed a wayleave agreement with social landlord EastendHomes in the Borough of Tower Hamlets. The deal will see their full fibre network cover 4,000 more homes.

A little-known ISP called Fibairo has become one of the precious few UK providers to launch a rural wireless broadband network using White Space (TVWS) technology, which is being used to help connect remote rural homes and businesses in Castle Douglas and other parts of the Ken Dee Valley in Scotland. They also plan some FTTP.
