Mobile operator Vodafone has signed a new deal with Ericsson to upgrade their 4G network in London and Southern England by installing the latest LTE-Advanced based Carrier Aggregation (CA) and Massive MIMO technologies, which should boost Mobile Broadband speeds.

A pub called ‘The Bull‘ in Ditchling, which is situated a few miles from the East Sussex town of Lewes and won the 2016 Great British Pub Awards, has helped 300 local homes and businesses to access FTTC based “superfast broadband” (24Mbps+) by donating a section of their private car park to Openreach.

The first half of 2017 has seen another rise in average fixed line broadband download speeds to 28.21Mbps, albeit mostly fuelled by the on-going migration of consumers from older ADSL lines and on to newer “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) services. Meanwhile EE is still king for Mobile Broadband.

Fixed wireless ISP Kijoma Broadband, which serves parts of West Sussex, Portsmouth, the Isle of White, Hampshire, Staffordshire, Derbyshire and Surrey, has informed ISPreview.co.uk that they’ve begun to deploy a major upgrade on their network that will boost capacity and service speeds.

Openreach (BT) has today announced their intention to run a national pilot of the new Harmonised Repair service, which will begin on 24th July 2017 and run for 12 months with up to 500,000 broadband and phone lines of various different types (WLR, LLU, FTTC, FTTP and SoGEA).

The state aid supported Better Broadband for Oxfordshire project has agreed to yet another “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) roll-out extension with Openreach (BT), which means that a further 3,000 rural homes will be reached thanks to a new agreement worth £4 million.

The UK telecoms regulator, Ofcom, has published its first annual report to the European Commission on their monitoring of the EU’s new rules for protecting Net Neutrality (open internet access). The report finds that “there are no major concerns regarding the openness of the internet in the UK.”

Openreach (BT) has confirmed that they’re testing a new Fibre-to-the-distribution-point (FTTdp) style of G.fast broadband technology that mounts hardware from NetComm Wireless on top of telegraph poles, which shows that the operator hasn’t given up on FTTdp.

Fixed wireless ISP Airband has won Lot 4 (Northern, Central and West Devon) of the Connecting Devon and Somerset project as part of a £7m contract, which is on top of their existing £4.6m deal (here) to deploy “superfast broadband” to 5,800 premises in the Dartmoor and Exmoor National Parks.
