UPDATE Vodafone UK Stalls TV Launch as Fixed Broadband Growth Slows

The latest Q4 2016 (calendar) results from Vodafone UK reveal that their fixed line broadband base has grown by +16,000 in the quarter (sharply down from +30K in Q3) to total 183,000 customers and outdoor 4G coverage now stands at 97% (Ofcom’s definition). But still no sign of their Pay TV service.

UK ISP Aquiss Cuts Unlimited Fibre Broadband Price for 3 Months

Shropshire-based ISP Aquiss has announced that their “Family Unlimited Fibre” (FTTC) broadband services are all being offered with 3 months of free service to new customers who order before 28th February 2017, although this doesn’t include phone line rental (optional service).

ISP TalkTalk Sees “Fibre Broadband” Growth, But CEO Dido Harding to Exit

TalkTalk has today published their quarterly trading update (Q4 2016 calendar), which doesn’t reveal a lot but did confirm that their “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) base had grown by +74,000. Sadly overall on-net churn has risen to 1.6% (up from 1.4% at the last report), with -42,000 subscribers lost.

UK ISP Entanet Criticises Sky Broadband’s Move to Shun Sub-2Mbps Lines

Communications provider Entanet has warned that Sky Broadband’s recent decision to stop selling broadband to customers with a Minimum Access Line Speed (MALS) of 2Mbps or less (here) is “bad news for consumers” and could end up “stretching the digital divide instead of closing it.”

Openreach (BT) has confirmed to ISPreview.co.uk that their Fibre Availability Checker will tomorrow be updated to enable the inclusion of a G.fast order journey, but you shouldn’t expect to get a lot of detail. Plus the coverage of their “ultra fast” service is very limited.

6,330 Premises in Northamptonshire UK to Get Ultrafast 1Gbps FTTP Broadband

The Superfast Northamptonshire project in England has today signed two new contracts – worth £10.23m – with rural fibre optic ISP Gigaclear, which will enable the provider to roll-out their ultrafast (1Gbps+) Fibre-to-the-Premise (FTTP) broadband network to 6,330 premises.

A new uSwitch.com survey of 2,002 “nationally representative” UK adults via Opinium has revealed that a third of consumers who suffered downtime while trying to switch broadband ISP are less likely to ever attempt such a move again, while ISPs tended to blame outages on engineer delays and admin errors.

UK ISP TalkTalk Cuts FTTC Superfast Broadband Prices

Internet provider TalkTalk has today reduced the price of their ‘up to’ 38Mbps and ‘up to’ 76Mbps FTTC based “Fibre Broadband” packages for new subscribers on an 18 month contract and they’ve also removed the £50 one-off setup fee. The offers are expected to be available until 16th March 2017.

Changes Coming for Struggling Broadband Voucher Schemes in Wales

The Welsh Government has revealed that the uptake of their two broadband voucher schemes, which are designed to help businesses and rural homes gain access to a faster connection, has been fairly small and as a result some tweaks may be required in order to boost uptake.
