Winners of the ISPA’s 2018 UK ISP Internet Industry Awards Unveiled

The UK Internet Service Providers Association (ISPA) has tonight announced the winners of their 20th annual 2018 internet industry awards, which among other things saw Hyperoptic scoop the top spot for the ‘Best Superfast Broadband‘ category and Gigaclear named as the ‘Best Rural Broadband‘ ISP.. again.

Poor Showing for Telecoms in Top 50 UK Customer Satisfaction Index

Telecommunications (mobile, broadband ISP and phone) providers have this year given a poor showing in the top 50 UK customer satisfaction index, although two Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNO) did at least make it into the top list. The highest ranked was Tesco Mobile at 7th, while giffgaff trailed far behind in 44th.

EE and Vodafone Deliver Fastest UK 4G Mobile Speeds for May 2018

The latest crowd-sourced study of Mobile Broadband performance from Tutela has been published for May 2018, which reveals that EE and Vodafone continue to dominate for 4G data speeds and latency, although Three UK holds the top spot when it comes to older 3G connections.

H1 2018 – Top 10 Fastest National UK Broadband and Mobile ISPs

The first six months of 2018 recorded another rise in average fixed home broadband download speeds to 33.29Mbps (7.82Mbps upload) among the top 10 ISPs, which continues to be fuelled by the rising adoption of faster FTTC, FTTP and Cable lines. Average mobile data speeds also hit 18.87Mbps (5.02Mbps upload).

Several ISPs (e.g. Gigaclear) and UK fibre optic deployment projects (Digital Scotland) have won this year’s Connected Britain Awards 2018 (Total Telecom), which is an annual conference that has spent the past few days discussing future telecoms and broadband connectivity needs.

O2 UK Delivers Worst Level of Satisfaction for Mobile Data Speed

A new online RootMetrics survey of 1000 mobile customers has found that EE and Three UK have the highest levels of satisfaction with Mobile Broadband speeds (57% and 58% respectively), while O2 is bottom. Overall 79% would be willing to pay “marginally” more for something faster and more reliable (like 5G).

Ofcom Study Tests O2, Three UK, Vodafone and EE Mobile Performance

The latest 2018 Consumer Mobile Experience report from Ofcom has used crowdsourced data to reveal some interesting details about the performance of 3G and 4G mobile networks in the United Kingdom, which among other things finds that 86% of urban vs only 73% of rural users are satisfied with their service.

Ofcom 2018 Study – Average Home Broadband Speeds Hit 46.2Mbps

Ofcom has published their annual study of fixed line home broadband ISP speeds across the United Kingdom, which reveals that the average download rate has risen from 36.2Mbps last year to 46.2Mbps now, while uploads hit 6.2Mbps (up from 4.3Mbps). Sadly the gap between urban and rural areas persists.

2018 Study Compares Big UK Mobile and Broadband ISPs by Quality

Ofcom has published their annual study of service quality, call waiting times, complaints and service provision among the largest UK ISPs and Mobile operators, which among other things found that Plusnet had the longest call waiting times (7:50 mins) and the highest broadband satisfaction (86%).

GWS Reveals Top Most Reliable UK Mobile Operators in 32 Cities

A new study conducted by Global Wireless Solutions, which combined controlled network testing with an analysis of consumer behaviour and expectations of performance, has revealed which UK cities deliver the most reliable mobile network per operator. It’s good news for O2 and bad for Vodafone.

Which? 2018 UK Mobile Network Survey Ranks UW and Giffgaff Top

Consumer magazine Which? has published the results from their latest 2018 consumer survey of Mobile Network Operators (MNO), which ranked Utility Warehouse top with a customer score of 84% and they were followed by giffgaff (81%). Sadly Vodafone retains the bottom spot.

Peak Time Congestion Hits Hardest for Broadband ISP Plusnet

A new study into the impact on broadband ISP download speeds of peak (afternoon) vs off-peak (morning/daytime) internet usage at the largest six broadband providers in the United Kingdom has revealed that Plusnet suffers the biggest proportional drop in performance, while oddly TalkTalk got faster.
