Computing magazine PC Pro has announced the winners of its annual PCPro Excellence Awards 2012, which saw Zen Internet win the Best ISP gong for a ninth time (overall satisfaction score of 93%). Meanwhile BE Broadband (83%) and PlusNet (83%) walked away as runners up. Sadly other ISPs didn’t do quite so well.

Internet provider BE Broadband (sibling of O2 UK), which earlier this year admitted that they were “not making very good progress on fibre” and delayed their plans to launch a superfast broadband (FTTC) service until 2013, still “can’t yet confirm” whether this will actually happen. Separately they’ve today suffered major cable damage in London.

Internet provider BE Broadband appears to have taken a leaf out of its parents book (O2 UK) by launching a special offer that gives new subscribers to any of its packages a full year of half price broadband access (only available alongside a 12 month contract).

Ofcom’s latest broadband speeds report (released this week) also includes a unique and useful insight into the Latency (Ping) and Packet Loss performance of the UK’s largest ISPs, which can have a serious impact upon the performance of specific internet applications (e.g. online video games, Skype etc.). But which provider is best?

Mobile operator and ISP O2 UK (BE Broadband) has released its latest results to 30th June (Q2), which revealed that their fixed line broadband subscriber base saw a shock fall to total 602,000 (-15,800 in the quarter). That’s a nosedive from the -2,500 lost in Q1-2012 and the -5,000 lost during Q4-2011.

Internet provider BE Broadband (O2 UK) is continuing to quietly expand the coverage of its unbundled (LLU) ADSL2+ (up to 24Mbps) broadband platform and appears to have enabled a further 17 telephone exchanges since November last year.

Internet provider BE Broadband (O2 UK) has finally revealed a date for the start of its migration over to a new core network, which was originally supposed to get underway by the end of February 2012 but has since faced delays. This has also affected its FTTC superfast broadband plan.

As widely expected BE Broadband, which is the sibling fixed line network operator of O2 UK (Telefonica), has today confirmed the implementation of a “network-wide block” that aims to prevent its internet access customers from being able to view the The Pirate Bay (BitTorrent P2P / File Sharing) website.

Mobile operator and ISP O2 UK (Telefonica) has today released its latest quarterly results to the end of March (Q1-2012), which revealed that their fixed line broadband subscriber base (includes BE Broadband customers) had continued to decline by -2,500 (net) between Q4-2011 and Q1-2012 to reach a new total of 617,800.

Customers of internet provider Be Broadband UK are being affected by a “so called routing issue” this week that appears to be causing difficulty when trying to access websites (some are slow and others won’t load). The problems appear to be eerily reminiscent of those that traumatised the ISP through much of February (here).

Internet provider BE Broadband has this morning informed their customers that they’re “not making very good progress on fibre” and will once again have to delay their plans to launch a full superfast broadband (FTTC) service until 2013. The move is also likely to affect parent ISP O2 UK (Telefonica).

Broadband ISP supplier BE Wholesale, the wholesale business division of home internet provider BE Broadband, has officially joined the brand of its parent company O2 UK (Telefonica) by renaming to O2 Wholesale. Consumer ISP BE Broadband has been quick to clarify that the change “doesn’t affect us or our members at all“.

According to support staff at one ISP, Be Broadband, “feline interference” is a potentially very serious problem and one that has reportedly “bothered” their customers for “many years“.

Mobile operator and ISP O2 UK (Telefonica) has released its latest quarterly results to the end of December 2011 (Q4-2011), which showed that their rate of fixed line home broadband subscriber decline had significantly slowed from -27,600 in Q3 to -5,000 in Q4 for a new total of 620,300.
