The CSW Broadband project, which recently signed an extended deal to bring BT’s “superfast broadband” (24Mbps+) network to “nearly” 94% of Warwickshire, Solihull and Coventry by summer 2019, has revealed the next batch of areas that can expect to receive faster connectivity in the very near future.

BTOpenreach has posted a small, but potentially important, change concerning the Excess Construction Charges (ECC) for their single biggest deployment (62,000 premises passed) of ultrafast 330Mbps capable Fibre-the-the-Premises (FTTP) technology in rural parts of Cornwall (England).

The £35m+ Superfast Surrey project in England has announced the completion of its main deployment phase, which means that an additional 82,000 homes and businesses in the county can now gain access to BTOpenreach’s “high-speed fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) network; albeit a few months later than originally planned (end of 2014).

Telecoms giant BT has today reported that their joint £132m Superfast Cornwall project with the EU, which has already deployed the operators “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) network to cover around 95% of local premises (including the Isles of Scilly), has seen strong uptake by local premises with 60,000 subscribers choosing to adopt it.

Representatives of a small rural village in East Norfolk (England), Wiveton, have spoken to ISPreview.co.uk about their frustration after local broadband download speeds collapsed from around 6Mbps at Christmas to less than 2Mbps now. Some are even suffering speeds as low as 39Kbps and this includes a few living just yards from the exchange.

The Cumbria County Council has approved an additional public funding boost of £5.6m in order to expand the coverage of superfast broadband (24Mbps+) from the current target of 93% by 2015 to 95% by 2017. The contract will now go out to tender, although BT looks certain to win it.

BT has launched another trial of their VDSL2 based ‘up to’ 80Mbps Wireless-to-the-Cabinet (WTTC) broadband technology, this time via the small village of Westow that sits on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors in England.

The state aid supported Better Broadband for Oxfordshire project, which is working with BT to extend superfast broadband access (24Mbps+) to 90% of the county by the end of 2015, has today signed a £5.1m extension contract that will expand this coverage to another 6,500 local premises.

Several remote rural villages in Herefordshire (England), which include Llangarron and the nearby villages of Llancloudy and Llangrove, look set to become some of the first in the county to benefit from the arrival of a new ultrafast Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network that will offer top speeds of 330Mbps (Megabits per second).

At the end of last month BTOpenreach, which looks after BT’s national telecoms network in the United Kingdom, revealed that they had launched a Proof of Concept trial with ISPs to test a new, faster and simpler engineer repair service for broadband and phone lines. At the time there wasn’t enough meat for a news story but now we have more detail.
