Broadband ISP Aquiss Offer 8 Months Half Price on CityFibre and Openreach

Shropshire-based independent UK ISP Aquiss has informed ISPreview that they plan to introduce a new special offer on their full fibre (FTTP) broadband plans via both the CityFibre and Openreach networks, which will discount their package prices to half price for the first 8 months of service with new customer connections.

Mobile and internet provider EE (BT) has today confirmed our earlier leak (here) by officially launching their Advanced Full Fibre Broadband packages, offering downloading speeds of 2.3Gbps and 8Gbps to new UK customers. But availability remains limited to the Guildford, Woking and surrounding areas, although this is due to “expand further in the near future“.

Openreach Warn 1.5 million UK Analogue Phone Lines Yet to Make Digital Switch

The latest update from network access provider Openreach (BT) has today warned that homes and businesses only have 6 months left before the old Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) is permanently retired on 31st January 2027. As it stands, some 1.5 million UK lines (down from 1.9m in June 2026) are still operating on legacy copper, including roughly 350,000 business premises (the latter group faces disconnection).

Study Claims 1 Mill Rural UK FTTP Premises At Risk of Openreach’s “uneconomic overbuild”

Consulting firm Cartesian has released a new report on the state of the UK’s fibre full broadband market, which unsurprisingly highlights how challenging it is for alternative networks (altnet) to create sustainable business models. The study also claims that c.1 million rural FTTP premises could see uneconomic overbuild if Openreach is required to meet a high exchange coverage threshold for copper switchover.

Network access provider Openreach (BT) has today notified UK broadband ISPs that they intend to expand the Equinox Offer Area, which reflects their long-term wholesale pricing discount scheme for helping move customers from slower copper to faster full fibre (FTTP) lines.

Point Topic Shows Why Ofcom Want to Block Openreach’s UK Broadband Discount

Telecoms analyst firm Point Topic has published research that helps to explain why Ofcom has proposed to block one of Openreach’s new discounts on their full fibre (FTTP) broadband products (here). This might have otherwise given ISPs and new customers to their network a £35 connection rebate and a £9.50 monthly rental rebate (for 18, 24 or 30 months depending on performance).

BDUK Update Figures for Openreach’s Project Gigabit Broadband Contracts

The Government’s Building Digital UK (BDUK) agency has updated the latest contract values and contracted premises figures for their Project Gigabit broadband roll-out contracts with Openreach (BT), which takes account of recent changes to show that all of the contracts combined are now worth £850m and will bring FTTP to around 358,000 premises.

The UK telecoms regulator, Ofcom, has today, for the first time, provisionally proposed to block one of several network discounts that network access provider Openreach (BT) had proposed to introduce in order to help them stay competitive and attract new customers to their full fibre (FTTP) broadband lines. But the separate £50 rebate offered in Virgin Media areas got a pass.

Vodafone UK Tops 1.86 Million Broadband Users as Mobile Declines to 27.98M

Broadband and mobile operator Vodafone (VodafoneThree) has this morning published their latest Q1 FY27 financial results. The figures revealed that they now have 1.866 million fixed broadband customers (up by 34,000 in Q1 2026 vs 64k in Q4 2025) and a combined mobile base of 27.987 million (down by -369k in Q1 vs -263k in Q4).

Openreach List 112 Next UK Areas for Copper to Full Fibre Switch – Tranche 25

Openreach (BT) has today published the next batch of 112 exchanges (Tranche 25) – covering 554,918 premises – under their “FTTP Priority Exchange” stop sell programme. This reflects areas where over 75% of premises are able to get full fibre lines and will thus stop selling copper based legacy phone and broadband products (i.e. FTTP becomes the only product option, where available).

Credible sources have informed ISPreview that mobile and internet provider EE (BT) is set to expand the availability of their FTTP-based “Advanced Full Fibre” 2.3Gbps (2,500Mbps) and 8Gbps (8,500Mbps) home broadband pilot on 31st July 2026, which will make it more accessible to the ISP’s existing customer base.

The Independent Networks Co-operative Association (INCA), which represents many of the UK market’s alternative broadband networks, has this afternoon become the latest industry organisation to press the new UK Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, and his leadership team to “give broadband and telecoms the political attention and clear ministerial ownership they deserve“.

BT Update – Openreach Lose 192K UK Broadband Lines as FTTP Covers 23.4M

Telecoms giant BT Group just published a short trading update to the end June 2026, which reveals that Openreach lost a total of 192,000 broadband lines to rivals over the past quarter (improved from -203k last quarter). But their “full fibre” (FTTP) coverage grew to 23.4 million premises (up from 22.92m) and EE’s 5G+ mobile coverage reached 77% of the UK population.

Network access provider Openreach (BT) has made it easier for UK ISPs to migrate customers on legacy broadband services, such as those supplied over their Wholesale Line Rental (WLR) and FTTC (GEA) products. In short, it’s now possible to migrate such lines under their Equinox discounts to SOGEA equivalents at any connection speed.
