City of London Corp Picks Roc Technologies to Deliver New Network

The City of London (CoL) Corporation has picked Roc Technologies to deliver a new end-to-end networking connectivity solution, encompassing a UK-first enterprise SASE rollout for public services, AI-driven wireless capability and high-availability internet connectivity. The move comes after Roc reached a deal to harness Vorboss’ 100Gbps full fibre network in the area (here).

Netomnia Rapidly Expands UK FTTP Broadband as Take-up and Revenues Rise

One of the country’s largest alternative broadband networks, Netomnia (Substantial Group), will today publish their Q3 2025 results. The figures reveal that revenues on their multi-gigabit speed full fibre (FTTP) network increased to £27.7m (up from £23.6m in Q2 and 125% YoY) and take-up reached 14% (up from 13.4%). Some 2.8 million premises are now covered (up 241k in Q3 vs 243k in Q2).

Broadband and mobile operator Vodafone and Three UK (VodafoneThree) have published their latest Q2 FY26 financial results. The figures show that they now have 1.704 million fixed broadband customers (up by 50k in Q2 vs +44k in Q1) and a huge combined mobile base of 28.824m (up from 28.765m).

Business IT and Cloud Provider labdesk Acquires UK ISP Cheshire Telecom

Warrington-based Cloud, Cyber and IT solutions provider labdesk has acquired business broadband, IT and phone provider Cheshire Telecom for an undisclosed sum. The “strategic move” is said to be the culmination of a longstanding partnership, with labdesk having already provided technical services and support to CT partners over the years.

Business UK Broadband ISP Fibre1 Acquired by Kube Networks Limited

Glasgow-based ISP, managed IT and Cloud provider KubeNet (Kube Networks), which is backed by investment from Maven Capital Partners and Kerrera Newco Limited, has announced the acquisition of the client base of Moray-based business broadband provider Fibre1 for an undisclosed sum.

The debt troubled TalkTalk Group, which at this point has been through a demerger of its businesses, several funding deals (here, here and here), job cuts and is currently said to be considering the possible disposal (sale) of its remaining businesses (here), has today announced the appointment of Henry Davies as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Not an easy job, we suspect.

BT See Openreach UK Broadband Lines Fall by 242k as FTTP Covers 20.3M Premises

The BT Group has today published their H1 FY26 biannual results to Sept 2025, which reveals that Openreach’s full fibre (FTTP) network added 2.2 million premises to their UK coverage to total 20.3m (level with H2 FY25 growth); including 5.5m in rural areas. But broadband line losses to rivals jumped to 242k in the last quarter (up from 169k).

This includes consolidation and retaining the UK as one of their core markets.

The CEO of network access provider Openreach (BT), Clive Selley, has warned Ofcom and the UK Government that he is “going to hold fire” on seeking approval for the final phase of the operator’s plan to deploy full fibre (FTTP) based broadband ISP technology to 30 million premises. At least until the regulator and tax environment show themselves to be favourable.

London Internet Exchange Launch New Bandwidth Options for Peering

The not-for-profit London Internet Exchange, which handles a large chunk of UK and global data traffic through their switches via around 900+ members (broadband ISPs, mobile and CDN providers etc.), has announced that networks with multiple 100GE ports (lagged ports) will now be able to access new peering bandwidths of 130Gbps and 150Gbps for “increased flexibility and value“.

Alternative UK broadband network Voneus has today officially confirmed what we touched on last month (here), which reveals that they’ve strengthened their position for “long-term growth” with a business reorganisation and have secured funding through to 2030 (i.e. renegotiation of an existing £70m debt facility). But more job cuts are set to follow.

The TalkTalk Group has today published a very brief trading update for the half year ended 31st August 2025, which largely only highlights the positives (unlike their annual accounts) and claims to have “delivered a solid first-half performance“. The group is currently aiming to tackle its debts by targeting £146m in total savings by FY28.

Business ISP 4Com Criticised Over UK Broadband and Phone Contracts

Bournemouth-based communications, IT and broadband provider 4Com has come in for criticism from some of their UK customers, who have complained about being hit by dramatically higher prices than they originally agreed over the phone. Sadly, business-to-business contracts lack many of the same protections as consumers enjoy, leaving some small firms in a dire situation.
