More sad news for the UK telecommunications and broadband industry today as Net Lynk (Net Lynk Direct Limited), which was a widely used distribution supplier for many network operators and ISPs, has “ceased trading” and “no further orders can now be taken“. A good number of providers (e.g. KCOM, Zen Internet and others) are likely to feel the impact.

The Hong Kong conglomerate behind mobile operator Three UK and several other operators in different countries, CK Hutchison Holdings (CKH), has confirmed that they’re currently engaged in talks that could see them spinning off their global telecommunications network in the near future. But an agreement is not yet certain.

Network operator CityFibre has this morning announced their second recent acquisition of an alternative UK broadband provider, which will see them gobble Connexin’s growing 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network in parts of East Yorkshire (Hull etc.), Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire (England). The financial details of the deal are not yet known.

The national telecoms regulator, Ofcom, has today published their proposals for the new Telecoms Access Review 2026 (TAR), which it hopes will help to “promote competition and investment” in gigabit broadband and business connectivity. Broadly speaking, the regulator will be updating and tweaking their existing approach, with few radical changes this time around.

City-focused broadband ISP Hyperoptic, which since 2011 claims to have built an alternative full fibre (FTTP/B) network to reach “more than” 1.73 million UK homes in parts of 64 towns and cities (inc. 340,000 customers), has today announced that they’ve appointed former Openreach (BT) veteran Mark Barlett to be their new Chief Operating Officer (COO).

Alternative network operator and ISP Rocket Fibre, which is in the process of expanding their Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network across more of Northamptonshire (here), has caused concern after they notified their legacy base of Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) customers that they would “cease providing” the service from 31st March 2025.
