Alternative network provider Cityfibre has today confirmed that the large county town of Northampton in Northamptonshire (East Midlands of England) has become its next “Gigabit City“, with their 45km long fibre optic (FTTP) network going live for local businesses today.

Cityfibre has today signed a new 5-year and £1.7 million deal, which commits UK business ISP Onecom to be the launch partner for their new ultrafast (1Gbps+) fibre optic broadband (FTTP) and Ethernet network in Southend-on-Sea (Essex, England).

Cityfibre, which operates a number of ultrafast Gigabit-capable fibre optic (FTTP) broadband networks across several cities in the United Kingdom, has today opened up their existing 62km long network in Hull (East Yorkshire) for use by local businesses.

Cityfibre has announced that the roll-out of their new multi-million-pound and 40km long Gigabit fibre optic (FTTP) broadband and Ethernet network in the city of Glasgow (Scotland) will begin within the next 3-4 months, which seems to represent a delay from the original “early in 2016” plan.

Fibre optic developer Cityfibre has issued an update on the £5.6m deal with Edinburgh City Council in Scotland, which is extending their existing Gigabit capable Fibre-to-the-Premise (FTTP) broadband network in the city to around 150km. The work is now expected to complete by the end of next month.

Fibre optic network builder Cityfibre has today issued a brief trading update for the first six months of 2016 to 30th June, which reveals that they signed 3,702 new customer connections in the period and that’s over three times the total amount sold in all of 2015 (1,110).

UK ISP TalkTalk has today issued a Q2 2016 (calendar) trading update, which confirms that they lost another 9,000 broadband subscribers in the quarter (est. total 3,987,000) and their joint 940Mbps FTTH network roll-out with Sky and Cityfibre in the City of York (England) has covered 11,000 premises.

The outcome of Ofcom’s recent Business Connectivity Review (here and here), which gave Openreach’s (BT) competitors “physical access” to its fibre optic cables (i.e. allowing them to “take direct control of the connection“), clearly hasn’t gone down well at urban fibre optic broadband builder Cityfibre.
