Cityfibre has connected the first public building (Allan’s Primary School) to their new 20km long Gigabit FTTP based Public Service Network (PSN) in the city of Stirling (Scotland), which is part of a £1.7m deal and is being supported by a 7-year contract with ISP MLL Telecom.
The original announcement noted that the network would be used to connect 33 of the local authority’s sites, although Cityfibre ultimately hopes that it will be “extended over time” to cover the “majority” of Stirling’s 3,000 businesses with “affordable” access to Gigabit broadband and Ethernet services.
James McClafferty, CityFibre’s Head of Regional Development, said:
“Stirling council and its school leaders have proved themselves to be e-learning pioneers, recognising the importance of digital skills in the workplaces of today and tomorrow. Their approach is fully aligned with both national and local learning and teaching strategies and positions Stirling ahead of the game.
This is exactly what CityFibre wants to see when it brings next-generation, full-fibre connectivity to any UK town or city. By investing in their city’s digital future and connecting its schools, libraries, art centres, offices and community facilities, Stirling Council demonstrates our shared ambition for Scotland and the UK as a global leader in the digital world.”
End.
