Network builder and broadband ISP Brsk, which has already deployed their gigabit speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network to cover 266,000 UK premises (rollout plan), has today confirmed that they’ve chosen Neos Networks to provide them with diverse national backhaul services as they expand their coverage.

Network operator Neos Networks, which operates one of the fastest growing and highest capacity business fibre networks in the UK – spanning 34,000km, 550 exchanges and 676 Points of Presence (PoPs), has today launched its new national 400Gbps Optical Wavelength services across 26 data centres (they have a total of 90 on-net).

Homes and businesses in the Hertfordshire (England) market town of Tring have faced several days of disruption to their broadband ISP connectivity, which occurred after rodents with a taste for optical fibre chewed through one of Openreach’s (BT) main high capacity fibre trunking cables in the area.

Digital infrastructure firm Boldyn Networks (formerly BAI Communications) has announced that they’ve rolled out a new “high capacity” fibre optic network in the South London Borough of Sutton to improve the area’s CCTV network, which is being done in partnership with the Greater London Authority (GLA) and Transport for London (TfL).

Eurasian focused network operator RETN UK has deployed a new Points of Presence (PoP) site in London, at the Lumen DC in Goswell Road, which will enable IP Transit services to new customers and expand their existing presence in one of the world’s major cities (new PoPs have also gone live in Poznań, Poland and Tallinn, Estonia).

Network access provider Openreach (BT) today claims to have launched a “game changer” new Ethernet product – OSA 100G Single (Optical Spectrum Access), which is designed to provide businesses or broadband ISPs with a dedicated, secure and always-on 100Gbps fibre optic data link that comes at a fairly attractive price point.

Network operator CityFibre has apologised to their business connectivity users in Leeds (Yorkshire, England) after their attempt to replace an old 288f fibre joint cable, which was due to be upgraded to 432f, resulted in a “significant number” of customers (e.g. Dark Fibre and Ethernet services) being hit by connectivity problems.

Ofcom has proposed to tweak how it calculates one of Openreach’s regulated Quality of Service (QoS) standards for Ethernet and Dark Fibre repairs, which would replace the current “on-time repair” target with a “mean time to repair” target. The change reflects the fact that the operator’s performance has improved, not worsened.

The second annual UK Fibre Awards event was held yesterday in London, which saw various broadband ISPs and full fibre network builders across several categories pick up awards for their achievements. Some of the winners included Wessex Internet for best rural and overall fibre provider, while CityFibre came top for fibre investment.
