Network access provider Openreach (BT) has just announced the second batch of annual price increases, albeit this time focused more on their wholesale Ethernet (EAD, EBD etc.), OSA, Excess Construction Charges (ECC), Dark Fibre and Physical Infrastructure Access (PIA) products for UK ISPs, businesses and other networks.

The Government’s executive Building Digital UK agency has today published a series of reports that evaluate different parts of their gigabit and full fibre broadband upgrade programmes, albeit broadly all focused on dark fibre style deployments to connect public sector sites (e.g. schools, council offices, hospitals etc.).

The Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) in England has issued a progress update on their ongoing £7m project to deploy a new gigabit-capable full fibre broadband network to over 175 public sector sites (schools, hospitals etc.), which reveals that 171 of the sites have been completed, while a further 22 sites are now due to be upgraded by 2024.

Network builder and UK broadband ISP Vorboss, which is investing £300m to build their 100Gbps full fibre network – dedicated to business – across central London (they’ve built over 500km of fibre since 2020), has launched a new product called ‘Retail Connect’ – offering speeds up to 10Gbps to the city’s “glass-front” retail outfits from just £150 a month.

Business UK broadband ISP Commsworld has revealed that they’re due to complete a major £15 million network and IT upgrade of Renfrewshire Council’s Wide Area Network (WAN), which forms part of the Connectivity as a Service (CaaS) contract that was signed a few years ago to help modernise local public sector sites.

Network operator Openreach (BT) has introduced new delivery options for their commercial UK Full Fibre Infrastructure Build (FFIB) product, which are intended to “improve operational effectiveness leading to reduced mean time to deliver” when getting related sites into a Customer Ready for Service (CRFS) state.

Network technology firm Xantaro has revealed that they’ve launched a new “turnkey street cabinet” solution, which is designed to support UK alternative networks with their rollout of gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband infrastructure, and it’s already been adopted by ISPs GoFibre and Upp (now acquired by nexfibre).
