The Strategic Advisor for fibre supplier Altnets and Chair of the UK Internet Service Provider’s Association (ISPA), Steve Leighton, has made a number of recommendations on how he believes the broadband sector can address one of its “most pressing challenges” – low adoption of full-fibre services despite expanding network coverage.

The ITS Technology Group, which have deployed various open access full fibre broadband and Ethernet networks across the UK, has today announced that they’ve partnered with bandwidth infrastructure company euNetworks to provide enterprises with direct connectivity to Europe’s “most strategically important” data centres.

Connectivity provider Neos Networks, which operates one of the biggest 34,000km long and 400Gbps capable business fibre optic networks in the UK – spanning 550 exchanges, 90+ data centres and 600+ Points of Presence (PoPs), has completed the first fibre installation under Project Reach to help improve 4G and 5G mobile (broadband) coverage along major rail lines.

Telecoms giant Vodafone have today confirmed that the long-running 2Africa project, which has spent the past 6 years building a 45,000km long subsea (submarine) fibre optic cable between the United Kingdom and most of coastal Africa, has completed the core part of its cable system.

The UK telecoms regulator, Ofcom, has today opened a “narrow consultation” that proposes to amend their leased line access (LLA) market analysis for the ongoing Telecoms Access Review 2026 (TAR) to reflect a “greater potential impact” from Openreach’s Physical Infrastructure Access (PIA) product (this allows rivals to run new fibre via existing cable ducts and poles).

The City of London (CoL) Corporation has picked Roc Technologies to deliver a new end-to-end networking connectivity solution, encompassing a UK-first enterprise SASE rollout for public services, AI-driven wireless capability and high-availability internet connectivity. The move comes after Roc reached a deal to harness Vorboss’ 100Gbps full fibre network in the area (here).

The not-for-profit London Internet Exchange, which handles a large chunk of UK and global data traffic through their switches via around 900+ members (broadband ISPs, mobile and CDN providers etc.), has announced that networks with multiple 100GE ports (lagged ports) will now be able to access new peering bandwidths of 130Gbps and 150Gbps for “increased flexibility and value“.

Network operator Openreach (BT) has notified UK internet providers (ISPs) about the looming launch of a new special offer on their Ethernet Access Direct (EAD) lines for speeds of 1Gbps or below. The deal will apply a rental discount of 10% on the current one-year term rental prices with no CPI price rises for a full 36 or 60 months in return for signing up to a new 36 or 60-month term.
